I need to add a small group of imacs to a Windows Server 2003 AD domain. Bought a Mac server as well to use for storage/backups etc.
It's my (limited!) understanding that Open Directory with Active Directory (using the Apple AD plugin) is somewhat flaky. Is this true?
I want Windows users to be able to login with their AD credentials on the Macs and to enforce group policies if possible without 3rd party software.
What's the easy-peasy way of doing this and how do I go about it? I know I read something about selecting a particular role for the Mac server during initial setup but I can't find the article right off now that I finally need to start this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you get it going? I *believe* it used to be an "issue" as, as usual, Micro$oft didn't do it "right" in the first place (proprietary extensions to the base standard etc). However, I think these issues have been overcome "recently" and you should be able to do it pretty easily - A quick Google for "Apple AD plugin" turned up a lot of (quite old) information.

Another good place to hunt around is the Apple discussion forums -

Is the "Windows compatibility" forum - You've got to register in order to search, but it's probably worth while.

    Good luck, cheers,
    Ian

No, won't get to it until next week. Just like you most of what I found was from 2007 and I'm hoping that it is better now.
If worst comes to worst I found 2 products that claim to do it all - one is AdmitMac and I forget the other one at the moment.
