Owners manual does not indicate if adding oil while the engine is running or off is correct.Does it make a difference?Mike

Dry sump. Check oil and add while running at idle. See attached, Mike.

I agree with measurement as mentioned before but adding a preset amount of oil while running or not running has no advantages other than maybe a quicker way to remeasure

If you took measurement before as per manual and see you need a half a quart .. the engine can be shut off oil added and then started again and measured per manual

    To each their own

I don't disagree that you can do that. For me, when I'm checking and adding, I just don't see the point of shutting down the motor with a dry sump.

Thanks guys, I have a fairly high comfort level for an old guy.My concern stemmed from a previous post where someone indicated that the air sensors were contaminated by an overfill.I did not know if adding while running could mimic such a condition. Best,Mike

Are we all in agreement that having the level towards the bottom line is a good thing?

Add oil with engine running is fine. Follow the procedure in the owners manual as listed by Dave Rocks to the letter. It is better to have the level at the bottom line.
Overfilling will contaminate/destroy the hot film air mass sensors, resulting in an expensive repair job. The capacity of the oil system is 12 liters. You will have more than enough oil in the system to run the car hard at a track day with the oil at the lower line. There is no advantage to running the level near the upper line.
