no, it doesn't matter that it wasn't a Ferrari... participating in it is the key. What did you drive and what category? I couldnt be there for the whole thing, but got to drive on the Thursday in the Tour category.. but it was a great experience. For me, the first special stage required a quick change in mindset.. I'm not used to taking the racing line on public roads... but it sure is fun!
I drove my '62 Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Only in the tour again this year (did it last year too), but I was fortunate to be the third car in my packet behind a 308 GTS and a Bolwell. On the last day the Bolwell left early and there was the 308 and a 246. I think I surprised them just how well the little 4 cyl porker kept up. Great fun and I'd highly recomend it to anyone. I'm hoping to do the Thoroughbred section in '06.
I took the 328 GTS across from Melbourne and my wife and I had a ball. We participated in the Classic Tour so not too much drama but quite a few cars drove very fast when parts of the rally permitted. On the first day we all did two laps (or part thereof) of the old GP circuit when our times were taken and we were then allocated slots in our section of the rally. Many cars spun out and/or hit witches hats and that was fun to watch. For better or for worse we were put into the first group of ten cars which included one of the F40's,Porsches,E types and etc. Alexander Downer joined our group for the last two days on a Lambo 5 litre V10 all wheel drive and he and his son were up among the leaders. It was our first rally and the initial look at the books provided for the four days was frightening but after the first morning things became much clearer. In my opinion, considering the over 300 cars which participated, the organisation of the event was excellent. Several parts which was interesting was; 1.the number of repairs to cars overnight so that they could front up next day for the rally. 2.if cars were not able to be repaired in time then more often than not they transferred all the rally labels across to another car and got that car scrutineered before the next morning start. My beloved 328 GTS did not miss a beat and we did not hit anything. At the final evening dinner, they had put together videos of the various sections of the rally and that was hilarious. Several cars carried videos with sound and on one occasion we followed that car into the trees as it left the road. I understand several cars were banned from continuing in the rally because of excessive speeds. Quite a few cars were extensively damaged including a beautiful Jaguar 220. Incidentally Silverstone Events who ran the rally tell me that channel 10 at 1PM on 29 January 2006 will have feature on the rally. We intend to go across next year but will be better prepared. All the best Tony
Fox sports had the 2005 Classic on last night - saw bugger all Ferraris they seemed more interested in crappy Monaros and ****box Porkers I did miss the very start so they may have mentioned that the Ferraris were the featured marque.
Actually it was the 2004 Classic Adelaide they showed last night which had the Mercedes SL as the feature car.
Very nice car you have Warren. I remember seeing it last year at the 356 Parade at Como Park, sadly it seemed to be missing this year though.

I was there at Como again this year. Wouldn't miss it. Still had most of the Classic Adelaide stickers on too. Great shots 328gtsfan. That big Delage was fantastic. 18 1/5 litres of WW1 Spad biplane engine putting out over 500bhp. The owner told me that they used over 170 litres of fuel just on Friday.
Oh, and just another point on Classic. The 2005 event will be on channel ten at the end of January. And I heard last night that (just to add insult to injury) the truck with the container carrying the XJ220 back to the UK for repairs had a slight accident on the way to the wharf. Unfortunately the XJ was in a 40ft container with one of the Ferraris and, well you can probably guess the rest. Both cars sustained damage to the front and rear - not that anyone would notice any more damage on the XJ.
forgive me for asking but... In the first photo, is there the back end of a Merc Mclaren SLR cut off in the left of the photo
This is the main Ferrarichat thread about the Classic Adelaide: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68903 I posted alot of photos and some videos on pages 3 and 4.
