I need to adjust the driver's window on a 1979 model 308. I want it to go and down level, so that when it reaches the top of the door jam the top of the window is level to the top of the jam and visa versa when going down. I have the door panel off and am getting familar with the intricate wire and wheel assembly. Does anyone have the secret for performing this operation without chewing off the good paw half way through the process? All help greatly appreciated.

If you've gotten this far, you should be able to see why they only go that far!

Sounds like maybe the guides are loose, or off a bit.

I just had my 1977 308's doors apart last month putting in new window motors, so I now know intimately th inner workings of these doors!

Check the front and rear metal guides, where the window actually seats, and see if they may be off. I don't know of any other reason why the window wouldn't be level.

I'm trying to figure out how to get mine to raise just a fraction higher. At the top position, I have just a bit of space left, between the window and top of frame (mine's a GTB)

I think you are saying you want it to go down to be even with the top of the door. It won't go that far, there is more window than there is door.

There's a positive stop bracket located about 1/3 of the way back from the front of the window assembly; it's an L-shaped bracket that attaches to the front cable pinch on the window glass. It can be moved up/down to hit the door with the window higher or lower. Loosen up the pinch bolt enough so you can move the bracket some, then you can push it down just a hair to let the window travel higher. That should help you out.

    Don,
I just did the adjustment. Actually, the moveable pulley is towards the rear of the door, through the opening--moves up and down on the L-shaped track.

Maybe it's different in my car because it's an early 308 (1977)....

Lowered it a bit, providing more slack in the cable, allowing the window to raise a bit higher.

    Thanks!!

    Greg
