This may seem strange but any way to get the tacho to read approx 25% lower than it actually is? I having trouble getting the 355 past stupid EGP testing even though it is 100% standard. A large percentage of the noise is not exhaust but general engine noise and with the testing done at 6300 rpm is looking more unlikely to get it under 92db.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you are going strictly off the tach on the dash and not a clip on digital tach, then you could remove the tach, open it up, pull the needle off the shaft, reposition it to get the erroneous reading you're looking for, and push it back on. When you open up the tach you'll find the tach needle rests on a tiny pin sticking out of the tach face. Before you pull the tach needle off, gently lift the tip of the needle over the pin so you can see where it comes to rest on it's own. After you are finished, you'll want to put it back on in that position so that it's accurate, then move it back over the pin rest.

Did you unplug the exhaust valve so it doesn't open?

Since he needs to dial it back 2k. and the car idles at 1k wont the person administering the test be suspicious when the car is at idle and the tach reads 0 , since it won't move from the peg until the engine reaches 2k
