I started to follow Fchat after I bought my 308 back in 2000. My major interest was to obtain maintenance information and cross reference parts. As the site grew I was pleased to see a 308 section where we could exchange info on our various problems. Also as the site expanded I became interested in the different sections of the country where I was able to contact folks as I travel. I was interested in the NY site but as new folks joined I began to loose sight of Ferrari related people and events. Also finding service garages and upolstery shops and body shops in the local NY and upstate areas was of interest . I am interested in Ferrari cruises and meets in the local area but not interested in speed contests and burn-outs along with other immature actions. I had also heard from a source that the NYSP have been contacted about this site and the LI and NYC and Westchester troops are watching for future exotic car runs. This puts a damper on us who just want to enjoy a fun ride . So I'll continue to watch and see if this gets back to Ferrari discussions as most of the other location groups do. I'll stay closer to the New England group where I can relate to what they are doing. Enjoy the ride

Rob...I am glad you are adding a sub-forum...As a member for the past 6 years, I have gained some great technical insight, discussed some good topics and made some great long lasting friends. Over the last year or so, I have participated so infrequently in the NY section due to the lack of topics of real substance (in my opinion). I miss the old day's where some of the founding members, Bruce, Will Hart, John A, Todd G, Gus, etc...would get together for a ride to lunch or a show where everyone kept pretty low profile while on the road where the worst offense we got pulled over for was no front plate (those that know me I am far from a slow driver, just i do it discreetly). I want to go for a ride where my license is not in jeopardy, people we share the road with are not cursing us, the cops actually give us a wave, and it is also a pleasant experience for me to bring my wife along.

I am still glad we can ask someone's opinion on where to get something purchased or a restaurant, but PLEASE put your 2 cents in ON THAT TOPIC and then leave the thread to die unless you can add something relevant to that question.

Maybe my opinions have changed since I turned 40, or maybe it is spending some quality time in the Technical area or TR forum, or other boards like GarageJournal where I can still get some good advice, not feel like an outsider, and meet some great people regardless of what you drive, how much money make, or where you live, or because many of those early members just don't hang out here anymore possibly because of some of the same feelings I have.

This is still a great board, a great group of guys and a great NY area....just not my taste anymore...

....I am sure the comments will now roll in....

I remember the days when I looked forward to meeting the guys I read about when I started with the Tri State group. Meeting many members of the board over the last several years with similar interests in cars started many a friendship. I agree with Andy that “the lack of camaraderie, relevant Ferrari discussion, and interesting topics” has caused many to move on. There are probably several hundred Ferraris on Long Island. Take a look at the turn out for some of the events over the last several years. Most of guys that used to frequent this site do not feel comfortable with the present group.

Well, I guess I'm never happy, ;). But really, there were times in the past I thought "your" niche had too much control. You drove out the trolls for sure, but there was friction with anyone outside the old circle. Young non-owners, EC, and etc. The problem was then exactly as it is today, out of balance in favor of a niche group. Now I really wish "your" niche would move back to town and maybe we would have some balance. Any ideas how to get the old gang back? Any ideas how we can all live together all 6 carbs insync? :)

Miss you Bruce, I actually had to buy some batteries the other day. :D

Actually, Parikh; across the whole spectrum of f-chat; you, more than any other member, subscribed or not, are most like a little schoolgirl.

Therefore, the only "fear" is to be perceived as a pedophile or at the very least, quite immature by the "virtue" of accompanying a 7th grade girl.

If you have a problem with this, just leave, and if you like, start your own little site. After all, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

i have to be honest ( and maybe its cuz i was brought up in europe) i reallly dont get what the big deal over Lambojoes nipple show...in all honesty...those coulda been digital nipples for all we know!?...so for the sake of investigative purposes , lambojoe, im going to need that girls phone number...

i still dont get the point of deleting the thread on hogan's son? why is it that people can't discuss things? fine, things can get a little heated, but for christ sake its a forum, people discuss things, and not everyone is going to agree...i stronly believe that the people on teh tri state forum know that these stupid little arguments are not personal at all...everything on this forum is in good nature

nipples- this is not a topless forum chat, theres pleanty of x-rated & porn sites out there to click on, (I probably visited them all hahaha)

hogan's thread- there was a personal attack posted in that thread and thats why it was locked, not because of the debate over that little punks actions

I think Dave M. (Dm N Stuff) said it best when he posted "don't consider this your personal playground. Rob wants new members here, and treating the Tri-State section like your own, instead of a place for all from your region is part of the problem."

The responses, by the likes of Shivram, to the effect that "ha..., we just scared off another potential participant" captures the problem. A number of people, some old, some relatively new, have said that they don't find the current atmosphere welcoming, and are not interested in hi-speed hi-jinx, lap dances or other activities that may seem very edgy when you are 25 years old, but are pretty limiting in interest to the more mature enthusiast. Maturity is not measured by chronological age. This is not about putting a damper on "fun." It is about a community where the common denominator is the cars, but invites a wide range of participation based on that common interest. This could include technical information, a restaurant recommendation, or a friendly get-together.

Casting this in terms of "old" vs. "young" is just another indication of the limitations that the current clique suffers from:- what you may not appreciate is that most of us have been there, we are just a bit more discreet about it, and our worldview extends beyond our penis.

With that said, I would urge the 'young and restless' to tone it down. You aren't going to win this, for the simple reason that this is a commercial board, it is intended to attract advertisers, and if one or another of the powers that be determine that your behavior is antithetical to the purpose and spirit of the board, you will-sooner or later- be gone. This board has been here longer than most of the offenders have owned exotic cars, and will, I hope, remain and thrive, long after you are gone.

To take a page from the "we are open-minded and inviting to all" story, keep in mind that part of this is meant to invite you to stay and continue participating, as long as you can play well with others, including people that are not part of your clique. If you think there is something wrong with that, then you definitely should find another place to play. Because this board has never been about providing a platform for a select few, to the exclusion of all others.

Would keeping Dave as a mod here be a viable solution? He seems to be pulling the collar a little tight, but nothing that isn't reasonable or anything, maybe he can keep an eye out and make sure everything's kosher to attract a more diverse group?

Sam is the main mod. There are just a few other mods like Dave and wax giving a little extra attention right now. This weekend I'll add the sub-forum, clarify the expectations and rules for both NYTS forums and then we'll move on. We'll decide if we need a backup mod for Sam, but it wouldn't be Dave or Wax, they're busy elsewhere.
