Maybe of he would have driven more mid engine cars like hmm, like Ferrari's he'd have a better idea on how they handle.
He's actually a pretty accomplished driver - has a GT40 and has done pretty well with it in Vintage racing.... pretty easy to lose a car like that. and its hard to warm up tires by swerving if you are not really scrubbing the tires.
Adrian has crashed his GT40 twice, had a BIG accident in the Ginetta G50 series and now this. Sounds like OSB (other sports beckon)... Rob Wilson or Malcolm Edeson would be good UK private coaches.
I have personally riden in a car on the track with AN driving and can say that he is rather accomplished and quite good. World class top rank no but then again the cars he normally drives and races are not fielded by 100% pro teams or drivers. Give the guy a break he goofed participating in something that is not his chosen profession and something that he does not claim to be an expert at.

Agreed. Based on lap times, he is more than competent. However, it's the pattern of behavior and the frequency of shunts that are concerning, I imagine, to both his insurance company and to his employer, most of all. <grin> Relax. It could happen to anyone...

Really? you have lots of track experience that backs that up? I can say from personal expereince that warming up tires is hard... looks simple and easy but is really hard and you have to concentrate. weaving back and forth at a low speed does nothing, but severe left - right hard turns generates heat... but also puts the car into rotation and you have to "catch" it ... Newey just did not.... just trying to warm up kart tires is hard... let alone a large mid engined car.
He is only human after all, he more than makes up for his shortfall on the track in the design studio. Good on him giving it a go.
He raced a Red Bull sponsored Ferrari 430GT2 in the Le Mans 24 Hours a few years ago. Aside from his GT40 he also regularly races his E type lightweight at Goodwood with some sucess (although to be fair his E Type has spent as much time in the wind tunnel as an RB6)
If you can't warm up the tires, then you probably shouldn't be driving the car in the first place. Super Trofeo cars are wide and have ridiculous amounts of grip. This is a laughably embarrassing mistake, not really sure why you are trying to defend it. Like others have said, this is far from the first time Newey has binned it. Notice how no cars pass him even after he crashes...appears he was last on the grid anyway.
Let's not forget Roberto Guerrero the pole sitter at Indy in 1992 stuffing it on the warm-up lap. It is incredibly easy to do.
