Hacker uses an Android to remotely attack and hijack an airplane | Computerworld Blogs

More boondoggle. The ADS-B system was supposed to be here already, it was supposed to be secure, and it was supposed to provide out and in service for the jock behind the yoke too. It is not fully implemented, it cost way more than planned, it does NOT provide anything inbound, and will soon be mandatory in many high traffic areas. It's like the transponder mess times a million.

ACARS was never intended to be used for flight mgmt, but it is. with an Android, some FMS emulation software and a transmitter a guy can remotely take over a plane using the same protocol. It's been tested, it's been done. What's that going to do to the ops spec for the big guys? Prolly nothing.

Adding crypto to ADS-B at this point would be very costly. What a carve-up.
