I never thought this day would come but my life priorities are changing and I am now seeking info for selling my euro countach downdraft. I have been a keeper of cars not a seller. Thus this will be my first sale of an expensive exotic. I am going to go thru the current values as I have not kept up lately. In addition I was wondering what can be included in the cost basis of the car since I understand there is tax implications. Not sure if the tax subject was approached on this forum.

Then the conditions in which to sell. Car is cosmetically perfect and all original (minor mechanical mods can be reverted) but is due for an engine out to address gasket/reseal for some minor oil seep, and suspensions may need to be refreshed along with doors pistons. Issue is that may not want to go thru the time or follow up required to do this and a buyer may want to do his own things.

Finally, selecting the channel to sell it. Not sure of that either. I always sold my own daily cars.

    Looking for advices.

You need to decribe your car in full supported by photos etc.
And then -at the end of the day- the Mother of all questions: how much Dollars, Euros, Rubels, Pengös, Yen, Pounds you want for the car!

I will when I put it for sale. Car is well known locally and on this forum. At this time I am trying to figure what is the best approach for me to sell it.
This is not the thread sale.

You might not like this answer, but dont try it yourself. Put it out to a few good brokers who can market it correctly and to give you solid market advice.

At the end of the day, if offers dont come in to your liking then dont sell! A Countach DD is a Connoisseurs car, so you need to hook up with those crowds firstly and not let your car stale out in the marketplace. Thats how I would do it anyway.

Basically, you have 3 main avenues to sell the car, you can put it in an auction, you can consign it with a dealer who will sell it off his showroom floor, and you can have a specialist sell it via Private Treaty. All 3 have plusses & minuses. For all the advice in the world, only you can determine what you are most comfortable with for a myriad of reasons.

There's a member in the Canadian subsection who started a thread looking for one. I think your car meets his needs other then being in Canada already. Not that it would be hard for him to import a car that old.

Guys, right now I am in the process of getting my stuff together. Car is not on the market yet. I have to figure out what is the best avenue for me. Price will be based on fair market value given the car's condition. Not more, not less. I have to figure this out too.
I am getting good inputs from many here that will help me decide how to proceed. This is a very difficult decision for me to make. I had the car for 17 years.

  11. First get a good detail, receipts, tool kit (if you have it), and any paperwork you have together. Then get some quality pictures of you car, including the underside if possible. You will need to do this regardless of the route that you take. Research sold prices. Then you need to pick your route. There is the basic do it yourself auction type like eBay, then a more in-depth one like Bat, followed by the auction houses. Fees and transport can eat into the sold price at auction houses, each vary as does their style. Hemmings & Dupont is another option for a traditional approach, and then you have wholesalers like like Gullwing which have surprisingly paid decent. I know another one in your state if your interested, but again that's likely not retail. The final choice is the broker like Joe and Roy. Which works best depends on many things, and your direct involvement is increased or reduced depending on the choice. I think time is on your side, economy and market wise, so take your time.

This may not be the time to sell. Prices for all Countach cars are down. Gullwing has a 75 LP400 at $749,000.00. A year or so ago a car like that would be priced at 1 to maybe 2 million US dollars. Quite a come down since then.

Gullwing is known for project cars that are pretty far gone. I wouldn't base the market on them.

When I was in my 20s I lived 2 blocks from their shop in a run down part of Queens. Parking was tough so I used to park near their shop all the time. It was always a shock when they opened up the doors and you would see all these old sportscars in that kind of a neighborhood. The place was packed to the brim with basket case cars. They would have to move 8 cars to get one out of the garagel Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd have a car similar to what they sell. I was making 16K a year as a social worker at the time.

I have sold them several cars and arranged the sail of several. None of those cars were anywhere near project cars.

They have very quick turn around, priced just below normal. But a very good indication on real money, right now.

Correct - this car needs everything plus.

Funny - I spent a lot of time in Astoria as a kid and have similar stories.

I like Gullwing but there is something that bothers me about the prices on the Ferrari (Dinos), Maserati, Lamborghini Ebay auctions.

I would be happy to take your car in on consignment.

We do all the transport services, the advertising in multiple locations through out the world, both digitally and in print. We take all the tire kicker calls and take the serious offers to you for review. We provide a PPI for any possible buyer. We facilitate all title transfer paperwork as well as securing funds from buyer for the seller. All report of sales as well as assit you with your "possible" tax liability's. We can as well provide financing options for a possible buyer, (not all buyers can or do pay cash). We do all this for a flat rate of 3% of the total final sale amount.

We also have a full service bay here staffed by Lamborghini as well as Ferrari trained techs. We can provide anything from an annual fluids change to a full on restoration, both mechanically and cosmetically.

Can contact me off line if I you wish to go into more detail.
