Absolutely beautiful. I love my Ferrari but I also envy you. I wish I have room for both!

This. You buy a 458 because you know deep down it is the pinnacle of sports cars and the standard bearer by which all other automotive brands measure. Get a maser gt if you want Italian but trust me its a lot less involving to drive than an fcar. Or else get a jaguar f-type. Most yahoos will think you are driving a California if that's what you care about. I drive Ferrari because it stirs my soul. You either get this or you don't and no offense but your analytical rational decisiveness is poorly suited for Ferrari ownership.

Why in the world are you a Ferrari fan given your stated feelings about cars? Just the show off exclusivity is all I can conclude from your comments. Get a roller or Bentley then. Or check what the target constituency is driving that you aspire to impress...

The 458 forum is officially on recess! Wtf is going here with the threads lately? I guess, as some members have speculated, school must be out.

Need a 4 seater, get an FF! With the FF you get all of the Ferrari Experience and can haul three additional people in comfort along with a trunk full of stuff. My FF is a daily driver, except for today since the weather is perfect and warm so I drove the California with the top down.

If you are not passionate about cars, you do not want a Ferrari. There are plenty of other cars that look good and are far more practical and useful for a non-performance oriented driver. I suggest that you take a trip to a Bentley dealer.

Haven't checked for a few days but wow .. I am amazed so many comments this has invited... Thanks for all the interesting views despite some smartass suggestions for a honda and irrelevant comment about my writing.. I am very convinced its either a f car or nothing no matter what.. It will still be my dream car whether I ll drive it daily or once a month and whether it's 612 or 458... This should not need any logical thinking to begin with.. It's basically just want it or not...

Aesthetically I do not like the 612. 458 the most beautiful car made by Ferrari in my opinion - but then I am biased :)

Buy a brand new Ferrari 458. Drive it 250 miles per year. Be religious with oil changes and recommended maintenance. Consider selling it to me in 3-4 years.

Based on what you say you are the antihesis of a "car guy". Sinice beauty is in the eye of the beholder, save a fortune an get a reliable and safe car, like a Volvo or Hyndai. Best

QUOTE=Cayman6616;142338001]I m really happy to see so many cool people here who share so much about their cars and stories... it's really great!

I am hoping to get some valuable advices here. i am struggling whether to pull the trigger to buy my first Ferrari... used or new.. but the only reason I like to have one is I like the look of it and this seems to be the next logical item I should get to reward myself.. but other issues... I have no interest in speed and performance (I did drive fast cars 997 turbo before but that did not interest me), no interest to collect cars, no interest to appreciate the brand history or whatever, no interest to maintain cars (I always get so upset when my car breaks down for any reason), no interest for track days or any drive without purpose and finally I am very concerned with safety ..

so based on these facts, am I suitable to own such a car? And if I do get one, should i get a used one that potentially creates a lot of problems which I would hate to handle.. a new one, apart of newer look, could also have fewer issues.. but it could be a waste for me as I might get bored with it very quickly..[/QUOTE]

I don't mean to appear rude but I've tried to tap into some car enthusiasm you may have and I don't find it. I think you are out of touch with yourself. You seem to be literally "looking for something to park your emotions at" …for a while. You are looking for temporary relief from something. You do not seem to be looking for joy or pleasure just for the sake of it. Here's the gist of what you wrote:

Essentially, what I get is that you don't really enjoy driving, scared of owning a Ferrari but you want to reward yourself for some reason and a Ferrari seems to represent a reward to you. You probably just want to park it and pat yourself on the back.

Are you spending a lot of time and energy doing something you really find boring or unrewarding? Does owning a Ferrari seem to offer you relief from that?

The last sentence in your OP says it best. I mentioned earlier that people buy a Ferrari either for what the car is or for what the car represents. You fall into the latter category and in your case, it's not even about cars. I suspect once the novelty wears off, your autopilot will steer you right back to where you were before. You are not asking yourself the right questions. You are just diverting stress.

Yep. OP is the antithesis of a car guy.

One of the things I have found about Fcars is the sound of engine and exhaust is second to none. No Tubi needed on the 458...it is glorious as it is. though I only drive about 1% of the time with the top up, one of the big surprises was you can hear the engine and exhaust so well with the back window down with no wind or rain entering the cockpit.

How SF is going to improve on this car is a mystery to me. Seems perfect as is.

i am frankly embarassed by the reaction of most of the people on this thread to the OP's initial post:
can't one just be of help to someone trying to find out if he is suitable for an fcar without personal
    judgements?

to cayman: i apologize for the immature reactions of some of our members, pm me you need any advice or thoughts
about anything, glad to be of help!

I am really getting a bit worried by some recent threads.

First there was a genius who claimed to have $ 30 million, but did not know if he can afford a Ferrari. Next, we were treated to a question if making $ 23 k per month was sufficient to afford a F car.

Now, to put the icing on the cake there is someone who really does not like cars and who does not like maintaining them wanting to know if he should buy a Ferrari.

My question to all - is it full moon or is it in the water?

Must be the moon. It is universal world wide.

Water is treated locally unless we are all drinking the same bottled water which seems unlikely.

BTW moonphase is waning gibbous.

I am sure most of us are aware that a number of other car forums consistently heap ridicule on FerrariChat and, guess what, it's because of threads like these!! Why do people keep replying to them?! There's a good chance that the poster is from one of those very forums having a little fun with the fan boys over on FerrariChat.

This is the most useful comment and I think this is very close to what is happening to me. Thank you for that. I like what I do and have been working my ass off and I somehow believe owning a Ferrari could be a way to reward myself (even if I am not going to actually enjoy the car itself) and to kind of relief the stress ... but you re right, I would probably just park it and pat myself on the back.. and after a few weeks, I could forget it's there and move on and try to find something else again..

For others questioning my story and make stupid accusations or suggestions, I don't really care and I am not going to convince any of u. If you think I am just having a little fun by making this up, I truly hope you could just ignore it and move on to other threads..

How about a vacation instead? Friends of mine rented an Audi convertible and spent 2 weeks hopping hotels in the Riviera del Sol last year. They had a super time. Getting away is very good for regaining perspective.

Yes it is quite embarrassing the immature Ferrari owners that have responded the way they have to you! I didn't think your post was out of line at all and I too do not fill out any information about myself on a public forum guess some idiots don't understand why..go figure!

Anyway it's true to form that so many actual Ferrari owners actually give the brand a bad name since they are so pompous and stuck on themselves! I personally love and have always had a passion for the Ferrari brand, however Lamborghini people are so much better in their treatment of other owners as well as car guys in general. So to me you really should have some kind of strong desire or passion that makes you want to really own any specific super car, if I were you I would drive several different Ferraris, Lambos, Aston Martins etc, and see which one really gets you passionate to want to drop 300k on... That would be my best advice, good luck with your search and don't let the haters worry you!

While some of the comments were a little over the top, it's not a function of pompous F car owners. Rather, they were an appropriate response to a ridiculous thread. "I don't like cars for any of the reasons car enthusiasts like them...should I get a ferrari?" Try a psychiatrist. Actually, I think some of the posts may have saved him some therapy dollars.
