My move to Chicago is now very near - next week I'll fly over with my family, our house in Naperville is ready for us.

There are many little things that I need advice for, I'll be very grateful if anyone can help:

    1) I'd like a cable or satellite TV provider that will connect me not only to American channels, but also to European channels. Who will provide this service in the Chicago area? Who can do the installation?

    2) I will need to get a home phone line and I'd like to install a broadband wireless network in my house. Where can I find a "one-stop-shop" to get everything installed at once?

    3) Where can I find a Granturismo S? :) There seem to be absolutely no cars on the internet, not even dealer demos.

    4) Any opinions on dealers such as the Bensenville "Toy Store"? They seem to have a nice low-mileage blue Gallardo, but can I trust them?

    Thanks for your help
    Andre

Welcome to Chicago. Its a great city and lots to do for the whole family. Try Comcast. They are a big provider in this town. I have broadband, cable and phone with them. Much better deal then getting them from seperate vendors. Just remember that everything will go thru your cable line. If you lose cable due to storms or other problems. You will also lose phone and internet as well. When the last storm blew thru here early last week I lost all three for almost 24hrs. Also Comcast is a huge company to deal with. Some people have had problems with their service and personel. I personally have had no complaints with them. Best of luck .

    1. As forementioned, Comcast is the big provider in the Chicago area. Not sure how many Euro channels they have though. For that you may have better luck with a satellite system (maybe DirectTV?)

    2. Comcast and AT&T both provide phone and internet services.

3 & 4. Naperville is only about 20 minutes from an authorized Maser dealer. In fact if you head east on Ogden Ave from Naperville, you will run into a 3 mile stretch (starting at Fairview Ave in Downers Grove and ending at I-294 in Hinsdale) where there is almost every high line dealership. In order from west to east is: Bentley Downers Grove / Luxury Motors (not the best reputation), then Mercedes of Westmont after Cass Ave., Napleton Porsche, Lamborghini (and Lotus) of Chicago, Lauerl Audi, Laurel BMW, and finally Continental Ferrari / Maserati.

Never heard of the Toy Store. A lot of these non-authorized stores pop up and then are closesd down a few months later. A few of the non-authorized dealers have horrible reputations. In my opinion, the best best would be to stick with authorized dealers until you have learned a little more about the chicago exotic scene. If you want a Gallardo, Lambo Chicago always has a nice selection.

Thanks for the replies! I will definitely contact Comcast, and I've seen the DirectTV website - they do offer an enormous amount of channels (but not cheap!).

I have been in Ogden Avenue, I have visited a few dealers back in May including Luxury Motors. I also got the feeling that it's better to stick with official dealers. I am looking at a BMW 335i Coupe as a daily driver, I will try to buy it immediately. Then I'll start looking for fancier stuff...

Welcome to Naperville and the Chicago area.

I agree with the above posts. Keep with authorized dealers. I also don't have high confidence with non-authorized dealers when purchasing a higher end car.

Comcast is fine. I have ATT, and it is very good. With cell phones, no real need for a hard line unless your Internet goes through it like mine. So for Comcast and cable, if you have a cell phone, no worry if the cable goes out.

You will not find Granturismo S ,you can only order one.
LFSC has in stock a Red demo Granturismo and a White with no miles.

I second what most everyone has said, it's going to be tough to get European channels, best bet may be a satellite provider?

As far as Maseratis, stick with the authorized dealerships, they're going to be your best bet and Continental/LFSC are both great. For a Lambo, talk to Danny Baker over at Lamborghini of Chicago, pretty good guy to deal with.

Well, since it's the ancient Greek and Latin form of Andrew, and is also the form used today in Greek, German and Welsh, I'd say the odds are about 1 in 5! :D

In my book, you'll always be the 'Grand Poobah'!

Welcome Andre, and hail to you Grand Poobah.

I look forward to meeting the Chicago area Fchat community!

I have to decide between a Granturismo S (sensible for the family) or a Gallardo (sensible for my track days). I'd love an F430 but they are still overpriced IMO. When the LP560 hits the streets and the F430 replacement comes, standard F430 prices are destined for a reality check (I hope!). So I'll go for a non-Ferrari exotic for the time being... I hope it's allowed in the local Fchat community :)

By the way does anyone know what the waiting time is for a new Granturismo S? I would buy one new, the price is a fraction of what they ask in Europe for the same car.

Welcome! This Friday, August 15th, Lamborghini Chicago is having the unveiling of the new Gallardo LP560-4 from 6-9pm. (209 E. Ogden, Westmont, IL 60559). It's only 15 minutes from Naperville. You will have the opportunity to drive any of their cars. (See Rick Schneider 630-654-9000@ Lambo Chicago). I will be there and look forward to meeting you if you can make it. Check my site for upcoming event where you can meet with all of us Lambo owners.

I will try to attend every event in the Chicago area. I'm always checking out all the sticky threads on this forum... I think it's the best way to meet the Fchat community. I hope we can meet on thursday at the Lambo event.

By the way it may be some time before I have an Italian exotic (primarily because I haven't decided what I want yet) - when the right car comes along on the market I'll go for it, but for a while I'll be attending events mainly as a spectator...

You can just drive in through the "Self-Park" next to the LM Service department. The two buildings join each other and Ferrari's/Lambo'/exotics will get to park on the roof top where the party is.

I am now officially living in Chicagoland! Still living out of a hotel room (until my furniture clears customs) and driving a cheapo rental car, but looking forward to meeting everyone soon! Perhaps we'll meet on Sunday at Lake Geneva: any hint on how to recognize the Fchat crowd? I don't want to look stupid approaching any complete stranger with a Ferrari T-shirt... ;)

We (Ferrari and Lamborghini) are meeting at 10:30 am at a Speedway gas station on North Ave, just west of I-355 and will drive to the Concours which is just west on North Ave. Here is a picture. Hope to see you there.
