I just sold my 328. Looking at 348, 355 and 360. Have heard horror stories of 348 and 355 maintenance costs. Are 360s less costly to maintain ?

Correct - the engine stays in for the BELT service, and most other things!

I've heard it still wise to "escrow" between $2,000 and $3,000 per year for maintenance, regardless of whether or not you use it. The chance is, if you keep your car for a longer term, you will need the funds at some point, so it's good for them to be set-aside for the maintenance bills. That's what I plan to do.

    Happy hunting.

    It depends.....

Generally? Probably cheaper to maintain a 360.

I have a 360 Spider, and one of the reasons I have the 360 is because I've heard the maintenance costs are lower than most every F-car except the 430. Parts of course are still expensive, but you don't need to drop the engine for most normal service on the 360.

Oil and filter are the same.

Electronics and F1 transmission components are spensive'. You usually need an SD2 to diagnose things with the F1 transmission and electrical issues.
Reliability might be tad higher with the 360, can't say parts and repair aren't that much cheaper.

Buy whatever model you really are drawn to. be it 348, 355, 360. Which one do you REALLY love to look at? Which one do you feel drawn to if they were lined up at a C+C? Get that one because in the end if you have problems.. and you will... that attraction will see you through it. :)

Went from 308 to the greatest 360 ever...mine!!!!

No really...did a LOT of research and the best advice is to go to the largest Ferrari event you can find and look at all the cars there, talk to the owners and then decide.

    Yours,

    Tom

I would go with a 360 or wait until I could get one. I would bypass the 348 and 355 but that's just my opinion.

    I was set on a 360 until I drove a 430.

360... You can drive it and enjoy it....if you look at most of the 348's and 355's that are for sale, they are in need of a major service...the seller's aren't willing to spring for the $7 to $10k bill....my 360 has been a dream, and hasn't busted my wallet...360 bro...360

Yes, there was a big leap in quality from 1990 to 1999. And you KNOW you want the clear window over the engine.

Funny, that is exactly why i went with the 360 over the 355 :)

I was looking at 355's and even bought a lift to do the engine out, installed the lift before I had the 355 and found a 360. My wife and I were talking about the 360 and she said that I have often told her the quote from Enzo where he said he sold engines and the rest of the car did not matter to him, she said why not get the one where the engine is under glass.

If you do your own work the 355 is cheaper to maintain, belts are cheap when you do your own engine out, clutch on a 355 is not the most fun job but can be done at home.

The 360 belts are easy to do on a 360 but that clutch needs SD2 work (F1 clutch, not sure about 3 pedal car) so that effectively prevents the owner from doing his own clutch work. That brings up the cost of the 360 above the 355.

If you take it to the dealer the 355 and 360 I bet are about the same cost over a few years averaged out, I hear amounts from $5k to $10k for the engine out work, well on the 360 F1 its about $7k to $10k every 3 years, belts are $1,200, clutch is $5k to $7k. Ok most 360's don't need a clutch every 3 years but at 10,000 miles a year, its going to be close for me, I am budgeting for my first "belt job" to be about $10k in 2 years, I will need a clutch, belts and I have leaky cam seals.

I really think that if you drive your car like I do and take it the shop like I am kind of forced to because of the F1 that over a many year average they are the same cost +/- a little bit. However if you can do your own work on the 355, its no contest. Note that I said I was kind of forced to, I have read here where people have done their own F1 clutches without SD2 but its seems to be not recommended.

If you only drive it occasionally on the weekends and not daily drive to work in traffic like I do, then a 360's clutch will last MANY years and the 360 wins hands down.

You shouldn't buy the car based on the difference in maintenance costs alone, since you will pay so much more up front for a 360 - it will likely take many years to catch up to the total amount spent. Buy it because that's the one you loved after you drove it.
