Surely the only real option is a 360 for that price?...or a 355 I suppose, depending on taste.

I assume you mean modern and not and older carby car?

Do you know which model he prefers Justin? :):)

As PP suggested, something newer I take it? :):)

A few options. A nice 355 or 360 for those sorts of dollars I reckon. Or perhaps 550? :D:D

Tell him to join Ferrari Chat and search the sections that interest him in regards to which model is would like to buy. :):)

He may be interested in something older like a 308 maybe? Let us know which model is chasing mate and we help point in the right direction. :):)

my advice is stay away from cars made after 2000 as the depreciatiion will be awful . id say look for a good 550 or even go vintage the 330 GT 2+2 is unloved but I think will go up in value in the next 5 years - so you get to drive a v12 for 5 years and make some money along the way

Thanks I am trying to tell him to buy a 308 To drive a couple times a week and have a runaround car. But I think he is leaning towards a 360 so he can drive everyday, would he be better off with a 355 or 550 for everyday driving.

How about a 348 couldn't imagine them depreciating any further, plus a ton of fun to run around in.
I would also think that either of the 355/360s would both make excellent options but that also gives rise other questions like- if your cousin wants paddle-shift or the gear stick (one being more expensive than the other)

Advise him to go buy a 308 --- best condition you (sorry he) can find, join the ferrari club, get a club permit for $38 a year which now allows you to drive 90 days (unrestricted) per year and means no stamp duty. 308's are possibly appreciating or at the very least depreciating at a much low rate than 360's With the balance keep $20,000 for surpises and spend $30 or $40,000 on a daily driver. At least this is the new system in Vic---is he in Vic?? If so tell him to go to the Vic club Concours at Como park on the 27 to get a good idea of the model options. Really no Ferrari is going to make a great daily driver

I'm in the same boat and have posted a number of threads asking a similar question. I've also got a similar budget but from what I can ascertain the ability to afford maintenance seems to be the deciding factor here. Its one thing buying a ferrari and another owning one.

The cost of maintenance and repairs + insurance on these cars is HUGE so although your friend may be able to afford one can he pay for the very regular and expensive services or insurance?

From the very helpful advice I received here ( sometimes ) its seems that if you have a $150k budget you should get a Ferrari for about $100,000 - $120,000 so you have some left over to allow for maintenance and repairs. You should also get the absolute best model you can for that price so unfortunately you wont get a fantastic 360 or 355 for that sort of money. You could possibly get a good 348 or 328 and most defiantly you'll get the finest 308.

I'd stay away from the 12 cylinder Ferrari's like the 550, 456 or Testarossa as they are hideously expensive ( although I would a Testarossa ) .

One of the biggest maintenance issues I encountered was the very frequent ( every 3 year ) timing belt change ( along with associated pulley bearings ) which can be expensive on some models as most likely will require the engine to be removed to do it. Estimates seems to be that this will be about a 25- 30 hour job so you figure it out how much this will be considering most Ferrari mechanics will charge around $100 per hour. Models like the 355, 348 and Mondial T will most likely require the engine removed to do this. Some people claim you can remove the tank instead and just lift the engine but the general consensus is that you need remove the engine ) .

For me I've decided on a GT4 because for the money I'd get a premium model that would most likely require little work / repairs and I'll be able to do a lot of the work myself and keep maintenance costs down.

But.....something like a GT4 is not a modern day car and hence not ideal as a daily driver. Your friend needs to work out if he'll be using this a daily driver and expects it to be like a modern day car or is he happy for it to just be a toy to drive around on weekends.

Also ask yourself if he'll be happy with only a two seater. If he needs to carry kids ( like me ) then he'll be limited to either a GT4 or Mondial . There's a few more 4 seaters but they not ideal for your budget.

Depends on his build as well.
You can pretty much fit in any model but if hes a big guy a 308 or a 328 would be much harder to live with using semi daily, later models have more room.
In a 308 or 328 a bigger guy needs wider spaces in parks to open the door fully to get in and out. I have a couple of models and the 328 is great to drive, I love it, but as a bigger guy it would become a pain using it as a semi daily.

If he isnt a big guy then a 308/328 could be perfect and has a handy boot space behind the engine.

Hey that's what this forum is for and its the reason why I got so ****ted off with all the "gunner" comments flying around when I asked, even if someone is a dreamer they deserve to get some free information and advice. If you don't want to waste your time then don't bother answering. Dreamers eventually I'm still looking around at the moment, not in any great hurry. Hoping to see one at the Italian Carnevale this weekend - hopefully get to see one in the flesh and have a sit, see how she feels and ultimately I've love to drive one prior to purchasing. Yes, the one's that look the most promising are silver :) ( although I'd love a red one for my first ) .
