I have just been offered a great deal on a 1999 550 Ferrari with 11,000kms and full service history, for less than half the price of a 575M and almost 100K Aust less than equiv cars for sale currently. It is a friend who is looking to cash up quickly. Is there anything I should be looking for specifically? I wouldn't usually look at the 550, but I understand they are a great car and the deal is very tempting.

Almost $100 k LESS than equivalent carrs currently being offered?

The last time I checked, 550s were generally going for $130-$150 or so. How much less than that are you being offered ? Maybe I just misunderstood you.

I think the "aust" he refered to was Austrailian... not sure the currency rate there.

    Just a guess.

Aahhhh, that makes more sense. Still 100k LESS than equivalent cars still seems like it's pretty unbelievable....that's about $78k in USD...sounds like he's potentially getting a '99 550 for something like the equivalent to $80k in US currency...

No... the prices for 550's is depreciating more reasonably in Oz. Even the MSRP is more expensive there. Check the "life in Australia" thread.

The car is being offered for less than 260K (USD 200K ) similar cars are 340K - 370K (USD 265K- 295K), but the prestige market is really struggling here at the moment from what I understand.
