Might be relocating to Beaumont, Tx soon. Anyone provide any advice? Nice place? Good resturants? Housing prices? Can I live near the water? Thanks!

I hope you aren't moving from anyplace nice, the shock could be severe.....Beaumont is pretty bleak, IMO. I have not lived there but one summer and worked in a refinery in Pt Arthur....and worked all around it for years and spent enough time to say that it is not a place I would want to live for any extended period of time. It has been several years ago so I can't really remember any decent restaurants. It is mostly refineries and related industries, with fast food or small soul food or greasy spoons and fried fish. You can live near the water, but waterfront is dominated by industry, for the most part. The sky stays lit at night with all the light pollution from local industry, so no stars to look at. Maybe someone here can give you some more encouraging reports.

    Good luck.

My friends engagement ended because his fiance wanted to live in Port Neches to be near her parents. He wasn't going to live anywhere near that dreary area.

Offer to take a cut in pay and benefits not to have to go............

Restaurants??? McDonalds, Wendy's, Denny's, several taquerias, a couple of Pho restaurants and a few diners.....
Water? I hope you like walking on clam shells. And coming out with an oil film on your body that is not suntan lotion..

Oh, and there is a definite petroleum smell in the air all the time............

I could go on but I believe I have said enough......

Janis Joplin is from there. You'd sing the blues if you were, too.

Close but Janis Joplin is from Port Arthur, Texas (PA).. Yes, Beaumont and PA are part of the Golden Triangle But Beaumont does not = Port Arthur.

Beaumont is 100% better the PA today... back in the 1950's PA was not as bad as you make it out to be (when Janis grew up)

Beaumont is EAST TEXAS.. It is not Houston, Dallas, San Antonio or Austin.. Lots of nice people though..

So yes on the water, housing prices are cheap, you could even live in Louisiana and commute if you want....

    Opinions are opinions..

    Cashier said ; "Jobs".

Look on the bright side, there are numerous personal injury attorneys in Beaumont. Oh wait, that must mean your odds of getting hurt are greater.

don't move there unless you desperately have to. I worked on new drills all over that area from orange to gnome and it sucks in all directions for about 100 miles. (lake charles is closer though-{they have casinos in case you didnt know}).

The area was hit hard by recent storms and has yet to recover....it IS a college town, Lamar University..

My friend Floyd Landry just opened "Floyd's" there on I-10 so the food just got a LOT better! LOL!

It's heavy industrial that's true, so just plan on partying in Houston or New Orleans.....

'Dem Deep Eas' Texas gals need love to ya'll and they start at it about 13 years old.....so it's not ALL bad.......

Johnny and Edgar Winter are also from Beaumont, as is my close friend Jesse Dayton....so there's a deep music tradition in the area....

**** hole of Texas! Few places less attractive in the entire state to me than that part! Hope you are making a **** load of money so you can buy a house in Austin too and fly there in your private plane every weekend to get out of B'town! YUCK! The smell alone would keep me away. Probably Liberty and Pasadena are as bad, maybe even rivaling B'town for the worst places in TX to live... Some might argue that places along the boarder are worse...might be, limited experience there, but still take the ones I have seen over B'town.
