I'm thinking of getting an early model (2002-2003) Maserati Coupe as my daily driver. I've done some research and, based on the experiences expressed by other owners, am pretty comfortable that the car will be sufficiently reliable to use on a daily basis. A few lingering questions though:

On the Coupe CC, how often have people had to replace the clutch, and how much did it cost? Are there any other issues associated with the early model CC that I should be aware of?

Are there any other recurring mechanical issues with the early models or the car in general?

Trunk Space - Can I fit skis in the car, i.e., is there a pass through between trunk and back seat that would allow this?

Fair price for a low mileage 2002?

    Thanks for the help.

I think the coupe is a great car, and my choice for transport when the wife wants to go shopping.
The lack of trunk room keeps her from buying anything.

There is no pass through for skis.

Clutch change is right around $3,000, sometimes less, usually a little more depending on the dealer or independent you take it to.

The car is very reliable and can be used on a daily basis.

Other costs to take into consideration is a faulty F1 Pump, typically runs about $900 and another $1,000 in labor. These tend to go out every 20-25k miles, however I have met owners who are well into 40+k miles and never had issues with theirs, it's just a likely problem so budget it in, just in case.

    No idea on skis.

In terms of a fair price, need more details on the car as to how clean it is, history, any service records, color combo? All in all between $35-45k depending on variables and exact mileage.

I was quite surprised when I first opened the trunk lid on the coupe. My Spyder has more trunk space.

    To OP:
A 30 second check on carsdotcom showed 13 coupes in the SoCal area. Asking prices for 2003-2004 coupes ran from $43K to $49K depending on mileage and equipment. As a side note the asking price for a 2002 Spyder with 75K miles is $38K. I think these cars will prove they can go the distance.

Thanks for the info. guys. How many miles have you been getting on a clutch? Also, I've read some posts that have suggested fewer clutch changes with a manual tranny than with the CC, but read others that say this is not necessarily so. Personally, I like the CC and there seem to be more available, but I don't want to be dropping $3k plus on a clutch every year. As mentioned in my original post, this would be my primary driver and I would expect to put 12,000 miles a year on it.

I have 35,000 miles on my 2004 coupe, clutch replaced at 12,000 miles due to the fact that it was the dealer demo and lots of different drivers. Very important to extend clutch life. When you stop at a light you must keep your foot on the brake this keeps the clutch disengaged. If you don't the the clutch will partially engage and wear. Also in stop and go traffic do not feather the gas. wait for the car in front of you to pull away about10 feet so you fully engage the clutch. Sounds more complicated than it is. Bottom line I drive my car every day as a DD and love it. I live in New York and have Verdenstein Winter tires in addition to to My F1 tires. I track the car several times a year. Buy one and enjoy
