    Hi there,

Looking for a bit of advice re mould making, I want to make a car badge around 6cm x 12cm as a new one is around £300.
What is the best way to go about this without an original badge to use as a template?
Can anyone give me pointers also on the mould making process?
    Thanks.

Unless you plan on going into business selling these badges (and have a reasonable sized market to sell to), you won't be able to justify the cost of a mould IMO. Even doing an additive process (DMLS, FDM, etc.), just generating the CAD file + the fabrication cost will not be much less than 300 quid (unless you already have access to a CAD system and you pay yourself $0/hour ;)) -- and then there must be some finishing costs.

What is the material and finish? Metal or Plastic?

Thanks for that Steve, maybe the answer is a friendly 3D printer owner.

Laser scan the original part + 3D print. Be sure to sand and impregnate the finished part for added strength.

Depending on what the badge looks like it might be hand-sculpted from clay and cast in metal using lost wax.

    How about a picture?

Need to see pics but for this type of item I normally would do a silicone mold and then cast the piece in a metal based resin.

I get all my supplies form Reynolds Advanced Materials.

    BUT....

As pointed out it is a very time intensive, expensive process. You have to do the math but it might still be cheaper just to purchase one. Ready made and be done with it. Also, unless you find a 3d printer service that specializes in metals your average 3d printed part doesn't hold up well in a long term environment with UV exposure.

That looks like it could be fabricated easily. The typefaces look like something commonly used. Anyone with a graphic software program could make a life size pattern.
