I am not new to the car game but I am slowly learning about the 308. Just so others don't make the same mistake I have! -------I have both the quatro manual and the Bosch manual. Use the quatro manual when it comes to settings for the throttle valve and WUR. The Bosch manual makes some statements that are not compatible with the F-car fuel system. First big one is setting the throttle plate with a piece of paper and then using the bypass for idle set-------------- didn't work for me! The second are the control numbers, again the Bosch numbers are not F-car specific.
Second big rookie mistake--------- I made a simple tool to adjust the control pressures but I neglected to add an anti-friction wheel on the end of the adj. screw and when I applied pressure to lower the pressure ,for cold setting, the tool inadvertantly twisted the post and really made me question my sanity. Thanks again to Steve M. and Dave H. and Rifledriver and Fastradio for their past and present posts that shorten the learning curve!
Now to put some serious miles on and gain confidence in the old girl.
    not so lost,

    thanks,
My old V12 jags with 4 sidedrafts were much easier to work on (if you drop a nut under the bonnet of an E-type all you had to do was pick it up, Yuk Yuk) but I trust the complexity of the F-car will be cancelled out by its reliability compared to the Jag. As far as enjoyment the F-car wims hands down. peace

"First big one is setting the throttle plate with a piece of paper and then using the bypass for idle set-------------- didn't work for me! "

It what way did it not work? Although I would prefer the idea of a specific feeler gauge as opposed to a piece of paper, the instructions in the Bosch manual worked perfectly on my 328 for throttle plate/idle setting.

The quatro manual states that the bypass is primarily closed and used only if the vaccum cannot be balanced. Hence the use of the throttle butterfly to set idle speed. The Bosch manual says the opposite. I firmly believe that after a few owners and 29yrs. allot of our cars have been worked on by some of those" 10% off places " that Rifledriver speaks of. What works for one of our cars may not result in the same fix for another caused by previous unknown changes. In closing the Bosch manual is great to understand the principal but the WSM IMHO takes preference. peace

PS I started out with our 308 having a negative value on one EX valve clearence and the rest too tight. The PO showed me a receipt from a foreign car shoppe. The car would not idle but I bought it because I could hit the redline quite nicely. After a major with SS replacement valves I finally straightened out the FI after two weeks (full time) of pulling my hair out.
