advice wanted

Son-in-law's old, really old, Honda got totaled by the insurance company in late October.
The car has been in his driveway since.

My question is: can he dispose of the car - or, as I suspect, must he contact the insurance company before the car is removed?

when ours occurred, and brought car home (vs impound) once the payout occurred we were cleared to dispose of it ...call the insurance company and ask
