Hello all. I just closed a deal on a 2003 Modena coupe F1. I promise to post pics but it won't be another 2 weeks before the car gets delivered because a new clutch/flywheel and brake pads/rotors will be installed.

The car is in California. It has test pipes instead of the OEM cat, so, the CEL is on all the time. The dealer is asking if I want to keep the test pipes or re-install the cat. I understand the sound and some power gains with the former, but the check engine light being on all the time bothers me. (My concern is if there are other problems, I wouldn't know since the CEL is always on). Emission is not required where I live. And this maybe all be personal preference. But are there other issues involved? What would you do? I have to let the dealer know about my decision in a few days.

Have him install the cats and clear the CEL! Last thing you want is some other problem hiding behind it, as you already have said..

Or for $25 I got a bluetooth OBD2 adaptor and the android Torque app and read and clear the cat inefficiency code every so often. I think (hope) anything major will show up as more than a simple CEL. Oh and make sure you get the stock cats for the future. Mine went awal.
