Anyone found an affordable replacement wheel, 15", 16" or 17", for the 390mm size Mondial wheels?

Rick, I'm not sure if this is in your price range but Superformance makes 16" Mondial wheels. I've never seen the Mondial wheels in person but they look pretty good from the pic on their website: www.superformance.co.uk BTW, you can probably buy through Rutlands as well.

    Define "affordable".

Are you saying that 348 wheels or the Superformance Mondial 16" reproductions aren't affordable enough?

    +1

When I was looking to replace my TRX's, I found a couple of companys charging about $250.00 per wheel. I could drudge them up, if that is your ball park. That being said, I still think the 348 wheels are the best--and most economical swap on the Mondial. I bought a set of 4, w tires for $750.00.

Note: If you are going the 348 wheel route, make sure you get 58mm bolts in front and 55mm in back. You can get 60mm bolts from H&R for 7 bucks a bolt and have a machinist cut them down for 20 bucks. The 55mm 348 bolts are too short in front for my comfort.

In another thread, someone stated that certain Volvo wheels have the correct bolt pattern but the center hub hole was too small. If that's the case, then pick out a Volvo aftermarket wheel that you like (with the correct offset) and have the center hole enlarged. The machining costs should not be more than $35 each wheel.

Change the emblems and most people will not know the difference, including most Ferrari owners. And for those that do know, they will also know that you are not "proper" because you don't have the original 390mm wheels on the car. Once you leave the stock / concours world, the only limitation is your taste and $$$.

A car is a object that should give the owner maximum pleasure - whether it's concours, racing, or just taking a Sunday drive. In my case, my 308 is so far from stock that concours committees send me trophies to NOT show up. So put on whatever wheels that work for you.

Steve looking at Rick's note I would think he is looking for wheels that are competative in price to what can be found at Tire Rack or other speed/wheel shops. Other then the F cost driver in Ferrari the cost of wheel should fall in the $150-$300 range . I believe that the replica's are running at $2000 a set which may put them out of a lot of 308 owners price range. So if you go with a middle of the road wheel/tire combination it should cost you around $1200 for the whole deal. I would think that if someone came up with a wheel/tire package in that price range a lot of folks with 14" and 390mm wheels would buy in. Just my thoughts here.

Unfortunately, due in part to the unique Ferrari bolt pattern, I could not find any inexpensive (quality) options out there. Personally, the cheapest I found new-were $250.00 a wheel. With a set of Kumho's you may get out the door for $1400 total, but it won't be easy. If you do find something good for cheaper, please post. I am sure a lot of TRX owners would be interested in hearing some new options.

    Good luck in the search!

    That's a great deal.
Word of warning: if those are the original Goodyear Gators you may want to put on new tires.

LD, be my guest. No copyright infringement.

What is do is send the judging committee a picture of my car, and they send me the trophy and usually a notice stating the the show has been changed to a new location (they never stay where, however). Over the years, I have gather a wall of trophies this way.

Joe the bolt pattern is not the problem. Ther are other cars that have a 5x108mm pattern . It is the offest that is the issue. If you can get something close it's not a problem. I don't recall the offsets but seem to remember that it was discussed a while back. Maybe doing a search will get the info if anyone is interested.

My memory is a little hazy now, but I think you're right. Either way, I had a bear of a time trying to find inexpensive aftermarket wheels for the car. Most aftermarket manufacturers were a no go at anything approaching reasonable. In the end, I still think the cheapest and best way to go is to find some used non-metrics from another Mondial or a 348.

BTW, if someone ends up finding nicer wheels than the 348's at a better price, just know that you will be ruining my day- I hope you can live with that ;)

Rick here again; I've purchased new 16" Mondial wheels from SuperPerformance in the UK. Onto those wheels I'll mount the General "Exclaim UHP" tires (245/50ZR16) I also ordered. This turned out to be the closest to stock solution - and surprisingly, the cheapest!

Thanks to everyone for the kind suggestions.

I did a quick look in the search section and from what I found the 308 wheel off-set is +10.95 MM (positive). Most people use 11MM so if you contact a few wheel manufactures and ask them for all wheels that have 5x108 with a 10-15mm off-set you may be able to find wheels to your taste in the $150-$300 range. It would be interesting to see what range you could go with off-sets without effecting the geometry. Just my thoughts.
