I have arrived! Picked up a LN55A950 Samsung. I'm so impressed how far TVs have come in the last 5 years. This thing is so light and super thin. I was going to gate a "late model" Samsung for less money but it was thicker, heavier, and the GF said "no way" to the touch of color (red around the trim and I agree I don't care for it). Wow, I have been living in the dark ages and just want to publically say how awesome HD movies and television looks on this thing. I don't have a Blue-ray player yet...but any recommendations for movies or xbox360 games. Call of Duty looks amazing.

    I can't believe I haven't had a TV for 2 years. I've been missing out!

    Congrats...

    Did you get HD Cable?

Call of Duty is endless fun :D Got my roommates hooked on it for PS3, I came back from class, they were always playing. Helped me rank up fast :D
Gears of War 1 or 2 is fun too.
Test Drive Unlimited, I picked it up for ~12 bucks, so fun. PGR3 or 4, Forza2
Grand Theft Auto 4, just for those carjacking moments

Movies: Transformers, Dark Knight...can't think of anything at the moment.

I wish I could see your reaction when you put a blu-ray in 1080p on your TV. The picture is stunning and absolutely beautiful.

I haven't seen Dark Knight yet and completely forgot about GTA4. Great suggestions, thank you. Keep em coming if you have any!

Long story short is that I went through a period of time where I was moving apartments literally once every month or two and had a huge 35 inch CRT and I got sick of moving it every few months so I said to heck with it and left it for the next tenant(it was a nice TV despite it's size). I have no real reason for not owning a TV other than I was trying to save money and just kept putting it off.

To be honest I never really missed it and just had basic cable and no video game console. But now that I have HD cable, DVR, xbox360, and a great TV...I can't imagine my life without it. Before I would mainly just surf the net or read books...but sometimes it's nice to just be entertained.

P.S. I'm spending a heck of a lot less money eating out and going out for drinks. I'm perfectly content staying home and grabbing a movie now.

    Looks amazing!

For your 360, I highly suggest getting Netflix, the way it works is amazing. Go on your computer, go to Netflix, find a movie (somewhat limited, but really good choices), hit Instant Stream or Transfer to Device (forget what exactly), and then go to your Xbox, it will be on your Netflix list within a couple of seconds. It is amazing, some TV shows like Heroes are HD as well. I think it's worth it...or just do the 2 week trial for it, and decide if you like it.

If you like sports, Madden 09 is really fun.

    Blu-ray recommendations:
I heard Ironman is good, I havent seen it yet.
    Casino Royale
    Planet Earth

by the way, what Blu-ray player did you pick up? I'm curious as why you didn't get a PS3 instead of it, probably around the same price, although again, not sure on that either...the software on the PS3 for bluray can be upgraded while the standalones cannot.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am definitely going to look into NetFlix. Seems like a good deal to me. As far as why I chose xbox? Simply put, all of my friends and family have one and I want to be able to play games with them. Therefore, I have no blue-ray player at the moment.

BTW: I have seen Iron Man albeit not on my TV...and thought it was a enjoyable movie and the effects are great. Would have been a lot better on my TV than the one I watched it on!

Yeah, that's main the reason the people I know that have 360s. I want to get one, probably later on though. I don't play video games much though, so the blu-rays help me there, plus the free online play seemed way better than paying ~50 bucks a year for internet on a 360. That's basically a new game for the PS3/360 every year.

Ah, well, then I suggest you get a PS3 for your Blu-ray player. It might be a bit more expensive, but it is better in the long run. Do your research on it, not my word :D

X-box Live is worlds better than the PS3 online. We had both for a while and the PS3 drove me nuts trying to game online. I just renewed for $40 for 13 months so IMO I feel its worth the $3 a month to play.

I have both as well at the moment, all the systems in the living room, my roommate has a 360. I honestly don't think there is a difference in online play. Both have those idiots, both are smooth online, 360 is hardwired while the PS3 is wireless, and there is no difference with the hardwire vs. wireless issues. Not sure how it's worlds better, I really don't see much of a difference in my opinion.

Yeah, $3 bucks a month is not bad at all, but when school rolls around, you tend not to play video games for a long while, or that's the case with me. :D I sold my PS2 to a friend since I never played it, only when I had friends over.
