Hi all, My rear view mirror popped off the other day (while driving!). Before I reattach, I wanted to make sure this is in-fact the correct mirror as I've been suspicious of this mirror ever since I bought the car (it just hasn't been a priority). To me, this looks period correct, but aftermarket (maybe a modified factory mirror)? I don't even know what the wire attaches to. Before I start pulling on that ball of yarn, I figured I'd get all your thoughts. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's it!! I guess a PO sent the original mirror out and had it modified for the Valentine One radar detector. Good to know. I actually just got a speeding ticket the other day. Maybe I should take this as a sign to get a radar detector and keep the modified mirror... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The mirror is correct, minus the holes. Might cross reference to other cars, but it's the only F that uses it, so pretty rare.
This happened once before, and I used Permatex 81840 Extreme Rearview Mirror Profressional Strength Adhesive. This lasted about 8 months, before separating again. To be fair, the car has seen some extended time in the hot Florida sun, but 8 months is not very long. It's my understanding the better option are the 3M pads (available through Porsche?). I need to look into that more before I reattach.
The Porsche glue pads are the way to go. Cut to same shape and size as the Ferrari mirror. T Rutlands always had them. Last one I bought was cheap. Clean the surfaces and attach pad to mirror base. holding mirror with both hands carefully align in windshield and touch windshield with top edge only and confirm position then tilt down for full contact and firmly press in place. You get one chance. Done it lots. Its easy.
Thanks. I am going to try and find a replacement (or maybe a few that I can pillage). If that doesn't work, I can look into what it would take to "resilver" the mirror.
