Got the Roadmate 600 for $499 from Radio Shack a few mon th back and love it. Better than the Pioneer AVIC-1 GPS system (or my old AutoPC).

I know some folks in the U.K. have been using something called TomTom for a few years....apparently coming to North America soon, if not already here.

No idea of price, sorry I can't provide any details - but a name you can research at least.

i use a TomTom setup. though it's a bit "different". the software runs on my Treo 650 and the sat receiver is a small brick-ish, battery-powered, device (roughly 0.5" by 1.5" by 4"). the Treo and brick talk via bluetooth (wo no wires).

i'm a huge fan of it. what's particularly great about it is that it's amazingly portable - the brick weighs nothing and it's trivial to move to any of my cars - or to take with me when i travel for rental cars. a 1GB SDcard will hold the entire US on it.

it isn't cost-effectivel IMO unless you already have the handheld device (i did).
