Does anyone know where I can tap in to get power for the HU I'm installing? I need a constant (red on harness) and a switched (yellow on harness) power.

I did do a search but nothing stating where I can tap for power.

Thanks for any help guys and Happy Holidays!

I chose not to tap into the original wiring (call me crazy)... I ran a large stereo amp power wire directly from my battery, through the firewall to a mounted dual row barrier strip on the right side of the fuse panel (308QV). It allowed me to tap into direct power when I installed my updated door locks and window accellerators. I slept better at night knowing that I wasn't jacking with the old factory stuff.

    Good luck

Oh yes indeed... The Spal door lock kit came with an in-line fuse.

Also I should edit my original post. The firewall is behind the seats... It should be the front bulkhead I suppose.... :)

Go ahead and do like everyone else - tap into the power supply for the clock for the constant +12 and the power to the wipers for the switched +12.......

The info is in the owners manual schematic. I would humbly suggest you splurge on a set of Paul's excellent schematics

Very easy to read. No affiliation. Well, except that I like them.

I grew up on real car radios. Whenever I needed gas money I'd stop at a used car lot to repair their defunct car radios at fixed $5 each using vibrators I rebuilt by filing the contacts. So, what is an HU?

Oh my.... I spent weeks trying to get a small subwoofer wired under my seat. Finally gave up but have a Kenwwood HU that takes a USB and sounds great until it gets warm then starts distorting. I have given up for now. But when I get the car running again!!!

BW I tapped into the top side of my rear window defroster. On the GT4 the stereo is always on

Rob, 1974-1985, the rear window heater is supposed to use left fuse 4 which is powered by the ignition key 'accessories' (+'run') position (as do as the a/c and heater fans on fuse 5).

das ist sehr interessant - methinks you have never turned your key off, just sit there listening to the radio.

Small woofers like 8" go fit nicely into the passenger footwell.
