I've done some searching through the threads but still cannot find consensus if there is a best option if someone wants aftermarket wheels for a 84 512BBi. I've decided I'd like to pull and store the stock wheels with the TRX's and find something new for daily driving. I do remember a vendor at Concorso Italiano that was making an application, but that was a couple years ago. Please help point me in the right direction.

Talk to our member ross, he has some horror stories...

And Moorespeed in Austin Texas has converted a Boxer spline to five lug rims....I don't have the number handy but they are in the book....

There are definately some vendors to NOT use......

Compomotive makes a very nice wheel. Many of the components are made in Germany. Replacement parts take some time, effort and expense to replace. 18's are nice, and they give that great responsive feeling, but 17's offer a better ride IMHO.

Call Tate at Caribou in California. He made some fantastic wheels for me, really good quality, they took hardly any weight to balance fit perfect, hes has done a number of boxers so the ofsets are ideal for the car, no science project involved. Your existing splined hubs transfer over or you can get a new set from Tate.

I went with 17 in rims, look similar to 288 wheels and I did a matt finish as I dont like the polished bling look, but they can finish however you like. Best single upgarde you can make for a boxer, better ride, better grip, predicatble handling. You will need different alignment though.

Caribou is making beautiful wheels for the BBi,and Tate is easy to deal with.

go with caribou. stay away from 'image'

the other option is to buy a set of 365 wheels - i have done both.

the advantage of the 365 wheels is that (at least mine) are wider, and they take normal tires, so you can have modern rubber in traditional sizes, and keep the original look.

admittedly right now it is wearing the new 17" rims with kumos - much better performance and the look is close to original.

Mario I got the specs from you. Used a little less camber. You are very right about dialing back the castor.

Wow, that matt wheel with polished spinner looks really good. Someone should do a good photograph of your car with those wheels!

    Good day Ross,

Why don't you take a picture of your car with the existing rims/wheels and photoshop the rims to the color you wish? This will only take a few moments and best of all you will be able to see the result with a minimum of effort/time...You will either like it or not and perhaps the picture will give you some conviction as to what to do.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I've been practicing photoshop so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I wasn't sure what shade of gold you wanted, and gold is very hard to do in PS. Also wasn't sure if you wanted the entire wheel or just the center. It was also difficult to bring out the detail in the spinner as your initial picture is small.

If you have a picture of the specific gold I can sample that and see if I can get closer, would also need to know if you want the entire wheel or just the center.

A higher res pic of your car would help too.

I'd be happy to give it another shot if you want something different.

    Hope that helps.
