    Hey guys,
I tried doing a search for this but not much luck. I was looking to change my wheel setup with either HRE or DPE wheels that I've been looking at. What size should I go with that's not going to make my ride seem too rough, I drive the car often, almost everyday, and really don't what to be too uncomfortable driving it. The ones I have been looking at and really like are the 21/22 HRE S101 in gunmetal(rossa corsa car), but am worried about wheels rubbing the wells or the car feeling too much of the road/bumps during the drive. Anyone with experience with these setups please comment so I can make a more informed decision. Thanks!!

I can't help you on the wheel rubbing question, but I can tell you that adding more unsprung weight will make your car ride worse. And generally speaking bigger (larger diameter wheels) weigh more. The effect is not subtle; a few pounds per wheel can be felt. You may want to get raw weight figures on the wheels you are thinking about and compare them to what you have now.

If you use 21/22 set up and not lowering your suspension spring No rubbing for sure. The ride quality on 20/20 is so much different with the 21/22 set up. 20/20 is much better ride and you feel more stable especially on the wavy/rough road. if you like track your car then I would not recommend going for 21/22 set up. 21/22 will look better because they have more aggresive offset and feel the gap better. Another option is 20/21 set up but you need to lower the suspension to look nice. I would say that is always be a trade off in changing the stock wheels… Look vs Ride….. wish you luck.

When are you going off road with it? Just kidding.

Are you going to lower it?

Actually I am not, I don't have a lifter and its my first sports car (much less exotic) coming from a flying spur and Escalade I enjoy that little bit of peace of mind.

Also consider the fact that you can't use Ferrari specific tyres, and the balance of the car will be very different due to the fact that the front and rear tyre width are biased differently than original. 255 in front and 335 in the rear, as opposed to the original 235.295 width will push the car more and create more understeer. Hydroplaning resistance will also be less with the wider tyres. What will also be worth noticing, is when you go to such a low profile, you run a much higher risk of damaging a wheel on a pot hole and other road hazards. I wouldn't do it on a high performance car that is driven on a daily basis and on where small changes can have a major negative effect. Doing this, can do a lot more than just make the car less comfy. Besides that, I personally think it makes the car look less classy if not cheap, but that's a subjective matter.

On all my other cars I did wheel upgrades. No matter what you do there is hardly any setup to beat the comfort of stock. I don't plan to touch my 458 wheels at all. Leaving them as is. Car is super comfortable.

I am not lowering the car for sure. One thing I noticed about the car when I first drove it was how comfortable the ride was compared to my Gallardo(had stock wheels). I am very scared to lose that, but I dislike the stock wheels I have(standard 458 wheels vs the upgraded 5 spoke ones). Now I'm thinking of just buying some used upgraded wheels so I dont lose the comfort. Benternet I love those wheels, the black HRE's on the rossa corsa looks amazing to me. I will not track this car(well maybe a few times only), but I do drive fairly agressively with a heavy foot. But I think I can handle the slight drop in performance to the upgraded looks. SO performance wise I am not worried about the drop, its more of a comfort thing for me.

I'm sure you guys are all better drivers than me but I have changed the wheels and lowered both of my 458's and don't really feel a difference. If anything it feels a little more aggressive with the lowering springs and the 1 piece HRE wheels are very light. Here is a picture of my previous Rossa car and my current '15 in white.

What about the Speciale wheels? They have a much more aggressive offset, that fills the wheel wells nicely and are supposedly very light. A set of those with the stock Michelin Pilot Super Sport would make for a nice looking and driving car.
There's another thing about large wheels and low profile tyres. If you do decide to go 21/22, the look might be odd if you don't lower the car. The ratio between the wheel arch gap and the tyre profile matters quite a bit. Your car might end up looking "lifted" if you put on a low profile tyre with stock height. The wheel well gap on the 458 is pretty big, so just keep that in mind as well.

What size wheels did you go with on both cars?

    Thanks!
