On my 18th birtday, a good friend's dad let me take out his 512TR for a few hours. Now THAT was a great B-day present! Craig
What would you more mature gentlemen say to a 19 or 20 year old (like me....lol) that is so obssessed with Ferrari, that he thinks about Ferrari constantly throughout the day? What could he possibly do to get his hands on the fantastic F-Car? I know for myself that I imagine myself driving a 360 around town whenever I'm driving the car doing errands, etc. Is the the kind of passion that leads to authentic ownership??
I was 20, and a neighbour down the street haerd how car obsessed I was and gave the keys to his testarossa. In the two hours we exceeded 155 indicated and did two magnum pi 45 degree burnouts. I still rtemember how awsome the sound was, although the car felt slower than I was expecting. Maybee it was abad example, my boxer feels much faster. Last thing I remember was waiting outside the guys house for the oil smoke to stop burning off the motor. Apparently the car was used to pootle to the golf club, my drive was probably the first time the engine got real hot. After that was when I bought my boxer at age 29, tried a 328 and then a boxer. 328's were kind of new then so the price difference between the two 1993 wasn't that steep, and frankly there was a huge difference in power.
I was 21 when I drove my first Ferrari, our real estate agent's 360 Modena. Later during that summer I got to drive a friend's 550 Maranello. Now it's up to me to work and own one
I'm envious of you young people who've already experienced the thrill. I had to wait until last March--at the age of 51--to drive the car I subsequently purchased. At least now I can drive it whenever I want to, weather permitting. I do like to at least let other young people sit in the driver's seat and fantasize. I guess some of them, like you, will be actually driving an F-car at a much earlier age than I.
Sorry, I find it rather difficult to get a female companion. (Never had a g/f in my life). So getting a Ferrari is mandatory for me. I have to compensate for my loss of....
Ive been pretty fortunate thanks to the great people on this website! Drove my first, a 308 GT4, when I was 17. Been lucky enough to drive a few more since then, including the Enzo on my 18th birthday
I currently run my own car show is scarsdale, NY and a buddy of mine let me drive his 575 in black and the guy is very relaxed and cool guy. A couple months later he let me drive a 360 Stradale and that car is my favorite latley. He let me borrow the Stradale one day for about 4 hours by myself and was suprised I came back alive and Ferrari's are certainly a great way of therapy. I just turned 17 and would like to get my hands on driving an ENZO.... www.scarsdaleconcours.com and go under about us and you can see the car i drove in the middle.
30...April 1999, a beautiful 308 came in on trade at Algar Ferrari. Test drove it the day it came in. Bought it one week later.
A lot of you guys are very lucky. I've never driven a Ferrari, never had a ride in one either. Well, at least I've sat in a couple at Graypaul... a black 360 Spider, and a 360 Modena.
Worked valet last year, so I got to drive (not much but enough to get me hooked) A 355 Spider, 360 Modena, 550 Maranello and a G-Car. Was 20 years old at the time.
Drove a 308 when I was 16. I liked it but I wasn't truly hooked on Ferrari ownership until I drove an F40 when I was 27. Since then I've driven lots of F cars. My favourite is still the F40 but right behind is the 355, the 550, and the 328. The 360 never quite did it for me but after I drove a fellow Fchatters with test pipes, I could see the attraction forming so I ordered a 430. I never truly appreciated the 550 until I drove a good friend's in the Bay Area. Only then did I see what the attraction was to a front 12. Every Ferrari offers something a little different and as I search for my next F-car (to go with the 430) I really pay attention to all the nuances. I've owned Ferraris so I know what I'm in for. Now I want to make sure that I get the best one for me and my personality. To be honest, though, driving someone else's Ferrari has never done it for me even close to way that backing my own one out of the garage does.
Believe it or not, I was 13 years old. It was a 308. When I was younger, I would always watch my dad drive. I would watch his hands & feet more than the road. One day I felt like I could do it. So, I got in the car and I did it! Not far, up the street and back down. I probably stalled it a bunch of times?? But I tend to forget that part!
I was 16. I bumped into my dads friend at the gas station one day and he was driving his Euro model '73 246 GTS. I hadn't seen the car for about 5 years and of course was drooling all over it. He tossed me the keys and told me to meet him back at his house in a couple hours. I went everywhere with that car, he got it back with over 100 more miles on it.
It was about 30 years ago I sat in my dads friends Dino. A couple of years later I got a ride in a different friends f-car. I then knew I wanted a Ferrari. 30 years later at age 46 I finally purchased and drove my first. No going back now!
A 308 at 14, then bought my first at 19 in '91, a '86 328gts white with blue and tan interior. I had Porsches since 15, I even owned every current model before I bought the 328. From then until now I have owned many exotics but it all started with Porsche and Ferrari.
saw and drove first at 16.... bought my first (a 355) when i was 18 after i had a good business venture. Still have it today.
Drove my first one ten years ago when I was 21 - tested a 348 my Dad was looking at. He went with a SL500 instead at that time [and still has it]. Next time was his F355 that he bought in 2002. After that was my 328 that I bought a few months later. Since then - back and forth between the two.
