Franck Montagny is running a fifth car for AGR at Sears Point. It seems that the only way AGR can conceivably get on the podium is by increasing the odds on the starting grid. Franck contested the IRL-sanctioned final Champ Car race in Long Beach last year with Forsythe Racing, finishing in an impressive second place. I've seen this guy drive prototypes - yes he's very fast, but he has made mistakes (like the one at Sebring when he was attempting to chase Allan at the end of the race). If I were his manager, I would not sign anything but a race by race agreement with AGR - no long term. He needs to be on the Ganassi want list when Dixon and Dario head off with de Ferran (hopefully). Assuming both guys leave Ganassi, Chip will definitely need someone of Franck's caliber if he wants to stay in the game otherwise I see Ganassi as just another AGR middle of the road or below team leaving the best teams in IRL being de Ferran and Penske.

It would be most interesting to see the AGR strategy on this one as Montagny is a far superior driver than the rest of the AGR herd....will the remainder of the herd support him or will Marco end up taking him out in some form or fashion as he's done with TK?

If Dixon & Dario bolt Ganassi for Deferran's team, doesn't that pretty much assure that Danica goes to Ganassi? If I were Franck I'd consider this an audition for Danica's soon-to-be-vacated seat.

probably so, but Chip would need a major player on his team which would be Franck - imo it's not the Ganassi cars that win, it's the drivers that win for Ganassi - another reason I could see for Franck going to Ganassi is the potential for him to drive the DP car for Chip - I hope both Dixon and Dario bail out as then that gives Gil his own drivers for Sebring and Petit in '10 to pair with Pagenaud and whoever else he can dig up. Silly season on tap for all series!

whoever signs Danica needs a good technical driver to do the setup (a la Kanaan).

what are the silly season rumors on AGR's lineup next season? TK and Marco...who else? Anyone taking over for DP?

...while Paul Tracy had this to say:

"I quess all the work I did in Toronto for agr promotions means nothing ... Frank montagny gets a ride for sonoma with agr ."

Paul had a lot of years to make an impression, he did, just not a favorable one. Montagny is a better long-run choice than Tracy would be (meaning he may not do as well off the bat but will be better should they retain him).

Montagny doesn't sell tickets. PT would.

PT talks like he forgets that's he's 40 and fat right now. Good driver, but way past his prime.

Maybe AGR should enter 18 cars, Marco or Danica could be arranged a win somehow.......

PT could work with Brian Barnyard at the IRL doing crash testing....
