Might be worth checking for clips here... http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/index.jhtml They usually have most of the good stuff up there.
Just reinforcing my constant disappointment in these so called "Career Politicians"......No wonder our Government is always so F/U.....
Yeah Really! In this day and age. A person can usually win an Election pretty much solely by how much money they have to spend on Hype. Or that their Political Party can muster up for them. That isn't real Democracy,IMO. But almost like a Monarchy....He with the most Dough or Political Clout usually wins. Unless they are a complete ******. That is pure B.S.!!! Maybe they should set a realistic limit on spending for all candidates so that some regular people....real people...can take a shot at it. "Career Politicains"....What the hell is that! They also need to limit terms in all Public Offices. You have some of these, um, Career Politicians who have been in the same Office for DECADES! Also they need to set a retirement age. I don't think we need 80 to 90+ year old men in ANY type of Public Office. Times change, but sometimes the Representatives don't? Thats not an good thing if you ask me. Lastly, now in the 21st. century. Do we really need 2 (basically the 2) Political Parties? SO MUCH Valuable Time and Tax Dollars are WASTED, EVERY SINGLE DAY when we get the Republicans arguing with the Democrats ( and Visa Versa) just because they want their own little Policies and Perks. Thats a complete WASTE of hard earned Taxpayer dollars! Lets just dump this "Party System" and Vote for the best person for the Job! Then, you'd get more of a true "Majority Rules" outcome.(AKA Democracy) And a hell of alot more work done For The People. And there wouldn't be all of this horrible Government waste that goes on now. Our Government is supposed to be "For the People, By the people". And thats not always the case anymore. Lobbyists paying off Politicians to get what they want? Happens every day! And, while I'm on a roll here... How abouit paying these so called "Public Servants" whatever the Median National Income is. With No Perks. No Free Trips. Limos. Or better Health Care benefits/Pensions than what the Majority of the American people get, ETC....
Funny how so much was made about how Ryan and Daley did not like each other. The Rod and Daley really do not like each other. Ryan built some decent highways, fixed Wacker... maybe shook a few people down for some $$, but who hasnt!?!? The Rod... he, ummmm, he ummm, he, ummmmm looked like a doofus on national TV!
Well throwing money doesn't work all the time - just ask Ryan - threw Millions away. Still CAN NOT BELEIVE he cheated when married to such a hot piece of a** as is wife Jeri! My question is what type of handlers does he have that he goes on The Daily Show and has no clue its political satire - its Jon Stewart for christ sakes
Actually, Thompson, Edgar and George Ryan all fought the Daleys and Chicago for the power and money that the city controls without the intervention of the state's benevolent guidance. This is the only reason that the "third airport" has ever been promoted by the Springfield Republicans. They can't stand the fact that many years ago, Chicago built Midway and then had the foresight to develop a little private airport, Orchard Field (hence ORD), into the busiest passenger airport in the world. An honor now perennially traded with Atlanta's Heartsfield Airport. And the state doesn't feel that they get enough of those $$$, in particular the Republicans. Both airports are within the City limits of Chicago, the third airport isn't, it would be right in the middle of Edgar's home territory and land holdings. Some coincidence, huh?
Edgar hated Chicago so much, that he flew in and out of Meigs just for a quick biz trip then back to his beloved Springfield. Somehow I always thought it was Daley's revenge when he destroyed that runway.
I think that most of those, um, "Public Servant" guys ALL have alot of open Farm land down in that area. That I am sure that they'd like to Sell for a huge Profit to Developers. Sure, sell the, (not really worth that much $$ right now) or (Alot of the people that live down there LIKE it just the way it is....quiet...."away from it all". Thats WHY they live there) Land for a Big Profit to make an Airport. Then, sell all of the surrounding land to Developers to make Hotels, Restaraunts, Car Rental Places, Strip Malls,(Strip Clubs?....) ETC... Eventually, they'll have to build housing for the people who work at the new jobs there. Then these "Public Servants" will all become far Wealthier than they already are. They will have new Subdivisons and Streets named after them and their family. Statues erected in their honor for "Bulding up" the Area. Creating Jobs. Libraries named after them....Blah. Blah. Blah. Typical Illinois Politics. I am not really all that familiar with that area. I know that my Uncles used to go down to Kankakee to go Pheasant Hunting on the vast farmland down there. And I have driven through that way a few times. But have really only seen beautiful, wide open spaces. Vast, open farmland, pretty much all around there. And. from what I've seen on the TV News so far. The people that 'Actually Live' down there do NOT want an Airport. As I already mentioned,. That they LIKE it all open and undeveloped and quiet. That is excatly WHY they live there! To "get away from it all". It's only these Politicians that want to develop Their land. So, my question is: If you build it, will they come? Is there that much need for a Big Airport down that way? I know that there are some general Aviation type Airports all over the place down there. They could probably make one of those alittle bit bigger. Like the size of the DuPage County Airport. Or Palwaukee. That would be enough to handle all of the Politicians and their learjets. And maybe some smaller Commercial Planes to Handle some other Air Travel.
Absolutely it was! The Springfield contingent consistantly launched efforts to close Midway and force the Third Airport hand, so Daley closed Meigs to stick it to the downstate pols that used it for their convenient access for downtown shopping trips, dinner junkets and photo op hops from Springfield to the state of IL building.
Interesting. Sadly that airport was used by many local folks who are now left holding the bag. I booked once a sight seeing flight out of there, it was absolutely spectacular and very much like MS Flight Sim.
Absolutely!!! There will be a minimum of new jobs "created", 90%+ of the jobs will be taken from the locations where these jobs are already performed, O'hare and Midway. At any time in the past years, if I so chose, I could have moved closer to O'Hare, business, entertainment, whatever. But along with those features, comes the noise, congestion and pollution. I instead, chose to live in the middle of many acres virgin Illinois prairie timber. Adjacent to a national wildlife and game preserve. Find that in Rosemont or Franklin Park. The more money that gets funnelled through an area, the more money and influence the pols get to steal, then they rent their newly acquired influence to the highest bidders. The airlines, who by the way are lining up deep to file for their bankruptcies, DO NOT WANT IT! To this date, they still have not been able to coerce a single airline to support the plan. Over 70% of all flights originating from a major US airport, are of a duration of less than 300 miles. This is a market better served by high speed rail, not air. We are about the only developed country that does not use high speed rail, why? because it does not concentrate the power and influence, it spreads it around, no local group of pols is going to push for it, because it will not provide them with the maximum concentration of power. There are many local/regional airports that serve up to the large lear-jet size planes, there is also the grossly underused Gary-Chicago airport which is capable of serving the largest of passenger and cargo planes. The purposes of the Third Airport plan were and are, to close or cripple Midway and O'Hare, to take the money and power from Chicago's control and to make windfall profits for the politicians who own large tracts of farmland, in and around the site of this proposed monument to graft and collusion. </rant>
Oh yeah. And lets not forget all of the CONSTANT Whining from the people that live around O'Hare Airport about the noise. What? They didn't know that THERE IS A HUGE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT THERE??????? You NEVER Hear anybody that lives around Midway Airport saying even one thing about the noise. Nothing. And they are a hell of alot closer to the Airport and Airport noise than the people in the O'hare area are. I mean, when you are coming in for a landing at Midway, it's almost like the planes wheels are scraping the Roofs of the houses around there as you come in! But do you hear them complaining? No. They knew what is there when they moved there.
When O'Hare was built up from Orchard Field, there was next to nothing in the immediate area. All of the major concentrations of humanity and commerciality surrounding it, amassed after the airport was there. They have reaped the economic benefits for many years, and now as far as I'm concerned, they have no right to complain about anything associated with expanding O'Hare. Yes, it seems cold of me, but I never wanted to live close to the airports, for any reason. It sure as hell isn't fair to force this one on us now!
Yes, and I believe that there used to be a Race Car Track over there, (Orchard Field/O'Hare) Many years ago, too. That reminds me of another B.S. situation.... Years ago. There used to be a Race Track in what is now, Burr Ridge. (By I-55 and County Line Rd.) called 'Sante Fe Speedway'. It was a 1/4 and 1/2 Mile Clay Track. I actually Raced a Car there. (a '65 Impala) They had Car Racing, Demolition Derby, Flat Track Motorcycle racing with the Big Bikes...Harleys and such. On Motorcycle Race nights, there had to be, literally, AT LEAST a thousand bikes out in the parking lot. And after the Racing was over for the night. They'd all start up at the same time. Man! What a Sound! I'll never forget that! There were some "famous" Local Drivers out there. Izzo was one of them. Bill Wildt from Motorsports Unlimited used to Race Motorcycles there. ( I believe that he Raced a Triumph?) And there was a guy that rode, either it was a Harley XR750 or XR1000 there that was somewhat famous. I can't remember his name right now.... It was a great, inexpensive, Fun Night out for many, many, THOUSANDS of People. Families, too. That place was packed every night it was open. But at any rate. It was there. It was Big. It was Loud. And, it was THERE. So one day, some Joe Schmoe contractor decides to build a couple of Big,expensive houses right there in the area. And, I have to wonder...Didn't these people that bought the houses SEE THE BIG RACECAR TRACK RIGHT THERE!!!!???? That jerk must have made a point to sell the houses in the Winter when there wasn't any noise or Traffic. So, what happens next? These people see and hear whats going on at THAT BIG RACECAR TRACK NEXT DOOR. And start whining about the Traffic and Noise. And, they get the BIG RACECAR TRACK NEXT DOOR. THATS BEEN THERE FOR MANY YEARS. Closed. Torn down. Gone......... Something that had been there for a very long time. And was a great entertainment source for THOUSANDS of People. Night after night. Year after Year. Gone. All of that Ruined by a select few....... You think that there was any "Politics" involved there? Personally, I think that those 1000Plus Bikers should have done something about that situation. At least they should have Dragged that Contractor around the Clay Track that he ruined for a few days....
