    The compressor will NOT engage if the system if the refrigerant charge (static pressure) is too low/empty IF the low pressure switch is working properly and/or has not been manually bypassed by a previous owner/technician. Bypassing the switch is a test for a properly operating switch and/or determining if the compressor clutch will engage and some people just bypass it permanently. It's not a good idea because the compressor can be damaged if it operates for any period of time with low, and especially with no charge.

    I've replaced the belt on my 328 compressor and, to be honest, I can't remember if the compressor has to be pulled. I did it in conjunction with replacing the cam belts/bearings and had to pull the compressor to do that so I didn't really pay any attention to whether the belt could be replaced without pulling the compressor. I'm sure someone here will know for sure and respond.

    I would THINK that it could! I mean, who ever heard of having to actually pull a compressor to replace a belt? But, of course, it IS a Ferrari... ;)
