    When I start out the RES light is flashing, and not even the fans run. After 5-10 miles the light stops flashing, and everything works fine. After 3-4 miles I can stop the car, turn off the engine, start again and the a/c works fine The dealer suggested maybe low on freon, but once it decides to run, it makes lots of cold air.

    I can't find anything at all in the manual about why that residual heat light flashes. It's trying to tell me something, but what?

    While it's not running, all the a/c controls do nothing no matter how I set them.

    This from a previous post:

    If ignition switch is in the run position, or the car is running, then the rest LED should come on when you press the button. If it doesn't then something in the heater control system is malfunctioning (probably just a bad LED).
    The rest button allows you to maintain a warm temperature after shutting the car off. When you press the rest button with the key on and then turn it off, it will run the hot water recirculation pump and the low fan speed for 15 minutes to maintain the temperature setting while the car is off.

    If I had to speculate.....something is up with the switch or the HVAC ECU. It probably is worthwhile to actually engage the system as Brian describes above to see if it actually works. As long as the system believes it is on......AC and the other controls will not function.

    I didn't know that is what the REST button does. And yes, I am an idiot who didn't RTFM. :)
