Any idea why AF1 doesn't make use of military bases when it travels the country with POTUS? When it comes to LA, they come into LAX rather than use March, Mugu or even Edwards. Know those are a little further away, but a short chopper ride gets you into LA proper. Same for Las Vegas - why not Nellis rather than McCarran? I'd think that the military bases might be easier for security purposes.

They do use em. I think its just a case by case basis. Kind of good for the people to see him in someways.

When they come to Houston they land at Ellington, a small joint base that also has NASA at it.

IIRC it is also based on the ARFF personnel and equipment at the airport. In theory, staff at LAX would be better trained than at MUGU at fighting a fire and rescuing people on a 747.
