Is there any downside to plugging the air injection with the plugs for sale on ferrariads. One of my pipes is cracked and leaking so i was thinking of plugging them

Search the archives, we've thrashed this a lot of times. Doubt you'll have any questions after that.

Rod -- (Ditto what Verell said, but) what is the condition of the rest of your air injection system? Is it still functional otherwise, or if not, how long has it been disabled? Do you have functional cat(s)?

Steve, everything is working, just have an exhaust leak on one injector pipe and it's the front head which looks to be a pig to get to. I did a search and found some info but the links in the posts point to the archive which is still off-line

I'd opt for the repair/replacement (even if it's a little painful $-wise now -- hopefully, you can still get the front air injection manifold assembly from FerrariUK, TRutlands, etc.). If the system had already been disabled for a long, long time and the major components (cats, air pump, plumbing, etc.) were already missing, I might feel differently, but somehow on the injected cars correct "completeness" is even more important IMO (or maybe I should say "incompleteness" is more of a resale penalty).

(I'm assuming that you have a 2-valve Mondial 8 -- is that correct?)

Will post photos and notes as it goes along.

Might be a little while, as i need to do the distributor conversion and ohaul the carbs.

    Chris,

Your location is listed in California. With the new smog cert. law that the gov. signed, we have to get our cars certified every 2 years forever.

I have the same problem as you do on this. What are you planning to do when the time comes to do the smog check now that you are removing all of the smog gear?

It is my great good fortune to NOT reside in a county or district that requires bianual smog chcks. cirtification is only required on title transfer.

If I really messed up on this, I would just go into a great big shame spiral, $##$%$%@##$$%%#%^%.

    Hopefully,

You might be just fine in a county that does not require regular checks.

I am not familiar with how the rule works there. I know that I am screwed where I live.

On my 308QV the rear injection rail was broken by a mechanic that was working on my heads. I called TRutlands today and for a used replacement they wanted $300. Butch Hooper in Az wanted $275. So I took the rail and broken off pieces to my good buddy who is a 'world class' welder who within 2 hours had the pieces tig welded back in place. Plus he drilled and tapped the holes in the headers so I can plug the bungs where the sniffers go/went. I also stripped off the aluminum shielding from the headers and connecting pipe. I'm going to have them ceramic coated here in Huntington Beach at Specialized Coating for $250 for all three pieces. Such a deal! Good day today!!

Helmut, The powder coating & ceramic coating company I've been useing is Specialized Coatings. Their phone # is 714-901-2628. I've never looked at their web site but it is: www.specializedcoatingshb.com. Good guys run the place. I've had all my suspension pieces done by them along with a crap load of other pieces. (Maybe that's the reason for the good price on the headers?) Oh yea, they have about a dozen different colors they can ceramic coat stuff. I'm going with a titanum color.
Anyway give them a call and see what they have to say. If you're ever down here give me a call.
