Sparky P-51 is featured in Air & Space magazine this month. We have a celebrity in our midst. Switches
The celebrity is the 51, not the ugly worn out old guy that built it and used to fly it. But thanks anyway Bob. There are some really sharp airplanes out there and a few of their drivers will be mildly upset that my ragged old gaudy junkstang made it into that publication. Some of my '15 minutes' I suppose. Mathmatical lofting and second degree curves coupled with great engineering and a marvelous engine. An airplane that will never grow old. Switches
Well said Bob. My pulse quickens every time I open the hanger door. It really used to quicken when I opened the hanger door with the intent of flying the little beast.
Hey Sparky, How 'bout telling us how you(?) got idea for the paint job... Corporate sponsor? Sweet tooth? Or just a bored 10 year old with a paintbrush, and some poster paint....? Skyraider "2's in!" ( dreaming of that first formation flight..)
The airplane is marked as it was in combat when Doc Watson flew it as Depuity Wing Commander. I'l post what sqdns are depicted in the diamond on the fin later. The JB's are stick ons that Jelly Belly had Ferrari Graphics in Sac make and apply. Sure like to remove for GML in Columbus in Sept but very costly. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow! Was that P-51D-25-NA 44-72777 flown by Major Ralph J 'Doc' Watson, Operations Officer, 52nd FG, 15th AF?? Very nice! If they are stickons, borrow the XYL's hair dryer...... or better yet get a heat gun... work an edge till it's loose then peel off slowly. It'll probably be reusable.... If you want to save them get a sheet of galvanized metal. apply a thin coat of wax and stick em to it. The wax will act as a release agent. Experiment!!
Never mind Steve, I just looked up the GML registration# page. It's one in the same everyone..... Maj Ralph "Doc" Watson # 44-72777 This is So Wonderful! Good Luck on the way To Rickenbacher. May you have fair winds. Charlie AKA Skyraider
Sparky, Charlie has the clue to the plot. I did that to remove the vinyl lettering from my truck when I changed my studio address.
Trying to get Jelly Belly to pick up the fuel tab, about 5K worth, and if that is the case all stickers will remain. Still have 3 weeks to ponder.
