When I turned on the fan on my "new" '85 308, the dual air vents below the radio started spitting out bits of dried insulation. Further inspection revealed that the spongy insulation around the vents was worned out . The cardboard-like conduit to the air vent is quite stiff and doesn't slide back far enough to disconnect the vent inlet. Can I pull out these 2 vents from the front with the ajustable knobs without ripping the vinyl or is there an other way to access the inside of the vents??? Any srews or pitfalls? Thanks

    Hello...

I can only speak about the '78 308 which I own.

There are two air filters that can be accessed under the front bonnet.

Mine had disintegrated into the type of material you are describing.

May I advise getting an owners manual or other diagram of your car to help locate them.

    Good luck.

bonneaud: I'm psychic, I'll answer your next question before you ask it !- You can buy replacement filter material from Home Depot. (I think it's blue- might be used for evaporative coolers, I realy dont remember-I fixed mine last year)
    enjoy your 85' - I have one too- they're great !

Thanks a million guys! I''ll try to get to the filters this week end. Do I need to remove the spare and its wheel well to access these boxes and filters?

Use 1/4" A/C filter material, either the foam, or the blue fiber filters which don't flow as well, but filter a lot better. You'll have to cut it to size of course.
