OK guys, this started with the CEL referring to an air temp sensor fault code, or 3 actually, all pointing to the same sensor. I had posted a while back on an idle speed issue and just mentioned this. The obvious good answer that was suggested was to switch the two sensors, since it's so easy. It took me a while to get around to it but that's what I did. I didn't want to mess with the sensor too much but it did have some oil on it so I dabbed that off. Took a test drive and had good news and bad news...haha. No CEL, both temp sensors seem fine now....so with the idle fixed and the CEL gone I think I'm good for smog. But, on that exact same test drive the AIRBAG light came on. I assume this is just a coincidence, but...now what? Ideas?

You'll have to have the dealer to turn that off. No way around it. There may be a broken spring/contact in the column. Common problem.

Ahhh interesting. So you're saying even if the repair is made this light is "set" until the dealer uses some special tool? Some special software package through the OBD port? I do notice that this problem does not show itself on my OBD II reader. Is there a way for me to test the contact system in the column?

    Thanks, Ross

The ABS and SRS modules use custom pins on the ODBII connector ie have nothing to do with the standard OBDII data stream. ANd yes, the reset needs Lambo software.

As others have said, the airbag light is a pain in the ass because you can't reset it via ODBII.

It will also turn on if you adjust the steering wheel when the car is started or accessory is on or something (can't remember exactly)

When the SRS module is powered up (ignition on), it is monitoring the circuits to the air bags. Any open circuit condition causes the SRS module to react by disabling the whole system and setting the error light. If you have a faulty clock spring (common failure), adjusting the steering wheel while the SRS module is powered up is a sure way of causing a termporary open circuit condition.

OK got it...very helpful. What will Lambo do to diagnose the problem? If I were to assume the clock spring is at fault can this be repaired at home?

Lambo has a special diagnostic thing they hook up to the car that will show the problem. I'd just have a lambo mechanic do it. Mine threw the code when I moved the steering column once and another time it just threw the code when I started the car. The light doesn't go off. It won't even go off if you pull all power from the car + fuses, etc. (I asked, I didn't try it :)).

I found the light really annoying so I put a piece of black detail tape over it so I didn't have to look at it for the couple weeks before I could bring it in. When I had it replaced, it was ~3 hours of labor + parts.

    Great info.
So, if you need to adjust the steering wheel, should it be done with ignition off only?
Is this valid for all Diablos?

stole from another forum, but useful...

OBDII socket in the 6L Diablo manual
I am looking at circuit 25. Pins connected to anything are

    Pin 7 ISO-9141
    Pin11 Airbag controller
    Pin 12 ABS controller

Except for pins 4 & 5 (ground) and pin 16 battery, thats all there is!

    -----
I have also seen this software for sale...
Lamborghini LDAS ver.1.0, ver3.2 dealer diagnostic software Lamborghini, workshop service manual Diablo

but I've seen one bad review and one good review of him.

Just wondering if you could use the LDAS software, and a serial to ODBII cable with the K-line connection to pin 11 to solve this ?

    Has anyone tried this ?
