Hi there, before I send $40 for an eBay airbox stencil that I'll probably only use once, I thought I'd ask if anyone has a stencil languishing in their garage they might let me borrow or buy? It's not so much the money, as the principle, and this guy's feedback isn't inspiring. I'm in California. Thanks, Mike

I bought one a few years ago and am waiting to use it soon in my restoration progression. I would pay the fair price and use Paypal for extra consumer protection.

That's the same file three times (mistake because I'm on my phone) - anyway, you can get that out putted at a vinyl graphics place

I think the trick is to first spray it with black so the stencil sticks to the airbox right?
And then spray it with the correct white.
Else there is a big chance of white paint leaking.

I need to do this too, but finding correct stencils seems difficult and the painting too.

I have a silkscreen setup to do this. Much better in my opinion.

I bought a stencil years ago, when I was finished I offered to loan it out and asked that it be passed around. It disappeared after the first guy got it!
Procedure I came up with was to spray the top semi gloss black, let dry, attach the stencil tight with tape and very light spray adhesive and spray black to seal it, let dry, then spray flat white, remove the stencil when dry and touch up with black or white with a brush if you still have bleed or missed spots.

For my car only the Ferrari script was correct, the ufi was not needed, so I simply didn't use that part of the stencil.

black fine texture wrinkle powder coat for the box and flat white krylon for the lettering - mist it on with a direct straight shot from the top

Does this also apply to a late UK 88 with ABS?

The UFI logo was still present on those but it was on the rear surface facing the firewall.

Ah, ok. This one as attached? I think someone must have repainted mine in the past. It had the UFI logo on the lid and side.
And is this the correct Ferrari logo for the lid?

Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to pull out my stored eBay 2-piece stencil and see if I could get a professional-level result on the airbox. I had just powder-coated the airbox in my garage and was pleased with the finish and texture.

I will have to say that the stencil method was not good enough for me.....maybe 1 less coating with the spray paint may have resulted in a crisper font result. Not good enough for me.

I couldn't help to try the screen-printing method now, so I bought the small screen frame from eBay, the emulsion kit from Michaels, the 500w shop light from Walmart, and the ink from Amazon! OMG, I am a nut.

I took the art file attached on Fchat and learned the wisdom from the past posts. The screenprint had to be made 3 times (me trying to get the emulsion timing down right with my 500w halogen shop light).

Much, much better and professional results. 99.8% of the project is set up.

The cost of supplies is around $80 with my free labor. I did one swipe of the ink and got a 99% perfect image on the airbox with my less-than-perfect screenprinting image. I am not confident about the water-based ink for long-term durability - but let's see. I stored the airbox to dry and I will take it out in another 2 years or so in the restoration process!
