Would anyone know which company sells a complete kit to aircondition a 246 (presently without airconditioning)? Will appreciate any leads. Thank you.

No idea, but one thing the previous owner did to my Euro Dino was to blank off the heater hoses so that no hot water would enter into the heater vent boxes and accidently warm the interior.

If you are thinking a factory type kit, I'm sure it's NLA. Here in the USA there are plenty of places that either add A/C to cars that never had them or update the old style systems. Take a look at the kits and parts offerered from these companies. With some fabrication you should be able to piece together something better than the factory ever made. http://www.classicautoair.com/ http://www.vintageair.com/ http://www.ackits.com/

When seeking compressors, then go to the source.
CCI purchased the Borg Warner division York years ago and make universal units good for either R-12, R-134a, or R-22 with no mods.

In the early 90's in Europe, I saw a battery operated A/c unit designed to fit between the front seats of most cars, too big for the Dino, so I walked on. Has anyone else come across this kind of application?

It doesn't seem likely that an effective compressor could be run off battery power without a massive overload.

Maybe that's why I have'nt heard any more about it! That was 15 years ago so I thought it might have gone somewhere. It would I think be ideal for a car like the Dino, where the A/C robs so much of its available power. In my business, my favourite tool is a nail gun that has a built in compressor and runs off a battery in the handle. Does not weigh a lot either. .15 years ago that was not an option.

I took mine out and most likely am not putting it back in. It worked fine (for a Dino) anyways when I took it out.

Yes, my car is a US model with airconditioning too, and I would probably remove it given the opportunity. My earlier query for a kit is for a Euro car that is now being restored. The owner wants airconditioning, so I was wondering whether there was a kit that could simplify life for him. Only three Dinos in the whole country.

I use the car only weekends and like to hear the Tubis, so keep my windows open.

Hi Abstamaria, we at www.mototechnique.com air conditioned a 246 GT some years ago, we used a small Japanese rotary pump and allthough it transformed the car making it a pleasure to drive the costs were prohibitive. The biggest problem after solving the installation problems was getting the car to run cool in London traffic, whilst the owner is delighted I'm not rushing to do another conversion, hope this is of help, cheers Kev.

Put it on Ebay as a complete kit from a working car starting at $0.99 and no reserve - watch the bidding, you'll be amazed!
