Aircraft crash - pics from different angles

This post isn't about the crash, it's about an interesting assortment of pics taken of the crash that show how difficult it can be to sight a crashed aircraft from the air from some angles even when the aircraft is whole and sitting on top of the trees.

Montauk Crash

If you go to the link above you will see some crash photo's that were
taken this past summer. The aircrew were on another mission which was in
the same grid as this unfortunate event. While monitoring 121.5 MHz, a
distress call was heard. Our crew notified air traffic control and
diverted to the site. We arrived there with 15 minutes.

The photos were taken while orbiting the location for several passes. No
further CAP help was required, since local rescue teams were arriving on
the scene.

The interesting thing to study is our ability to actually see the crash
from various directions. All of the pictures were taken from the same
distance. What is important is that the aircraft is very visible from
some directions and almost invisible from others. It is easy to see how
you could miss something if not really looking or searching from
different directions. The file name / caption will tell you the view.

Another important note is that the ELT did not go off. This is typical
for most crashes - perhaps as many as 90%! Consequently your visual
search skills are crucial.
