Curious how many of you Ferrari guys own airplanes. I was a serious car nut until I caught this silly bug. I'd have an FCar by now if I didn't want a Cirrus so bad. I thought exotic cars were expensive until I got knee deep into this hobby.

So lets hear it: what kinda plane, how many hours, ratings, etc.

    So true - :D

I am a budding aviation enthusiast. Sought to get my PPL the summer after business school, but one of the rainest summers in Chicago history prevented me from doing so. I only managed to log ~45 hours. Flew the Piper Warriors. :(

Now, living in NYC, working the hours that I work, my desire to become an private pilor is all but a pipe dream. I have promised myself, though, that when time permits, I will certainly return to this hobby, and even buy my own plane. I loved my time in the sky.

The Cirrus is an amazing plane! Love those LCD panel displays!

What do you fly these days RMX?

No Ferrari, don't own a plane, did the instructing thing for a while, but currently fly Jetstream 41's for a commuter airline. Commercial ASEL AMEL MEII, ATP soon. Love the hell out of 355's and 360's and can't wait to get a job at the majors so I can afford one.

I'm bouncing between 152s, 172s and a Warrior over at my local FBO. Been doing the 172RG as well to get signed off recently. Currently PP_ASEL and 2/3 of the way through my IFR training.

Two years ago I couldn't afford a 4-wheeled toy so I took up flying to pass the time. Now I can afford a 4-wheeled toy but would rather have a plane now. Life's weird that way. :)

Between planes now waiting to start restoration project, but previously owned an 1946 L-16 (military Aeronca Champ) and a 1944 North American SNJ-5 (AT-6D) before going overseas. My idea of a fun trip: flying solo, open cockpit in the SNJ from Fla to Oshkosh and back with a VHF radio, compass, map and a watch.

To me, a 65 hp Piper Cub off a grass strip is more fun than a 650 hp Lambo.

    best to all

There's a new type of license that's easier to get, but more restricted in what you can do with it. It's almost like having a permanent learner's permit.

After I long lost my log book with 40 hours in it and no ratings from 9 years ago, I started again last June. I have about 150 hours in the new log book. Got my Private Single in April, and my Multi-engine rating a month later.

I bought a nice Beech Duchess last August because I got tired of renting and I thought it would rent well at my club. There's not many twins for rent in this area. It's been a scratch to a loss between the rental money saved vs the flight school insurance and the 100 hour services. Hopefully, things will smooth out in a year now that the new mechanics have taken care of everything they saw that the last ones didn't.

I am now working on my Instrument rating.

I love it, it's such a great way of getting away from everything partly because you don't have time to worry about anything else.

Had an Aztec. Flew Cherokee 140s, Aerostar, Navajo, Beech D-18.
    CPL/ASMEL/IR +/- 1200hrs.

I retired myself to desk flying about ten years ago. You know what they say, "The most dangerous thing in the sky is a doctor flying a Beechcraft."

Thank God we live under the approach to SRQ - still love aviation and strain my neck to look everytime something goes over.

FYI, interesting/fun site if you don't know about it:

been flying for about 18 years. I fly an aerostar 601P which I've had 7 years. Had to do both engines after I had the plane for a year 80k; so the ferrari engine maintenance numbers don't scare me as much. before that I had a turbo super viking for 5 years.
I really enjoy driving my 38 gt4 to the airport, wiping down the plane and then doing a quick flight. for me it doesn't get much better than that.

I've logged more hours in the back of one of those than I'd like to count...

Turns out it makes a nice stable low-speed platform to simulate UAVs.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a UAV?

I'm thinking Unmanned Aerial Vehicle... but I can't really picture a pilot leaving the cockpit to take a seat in the back of the plane ;)
