I have a 1998 355, and I believe the alarm batteries are original...
The alarm works fine, but I am concerned about corrosion..
I do not have the 4 digit code for my car,
I just have the red fob and a key, no black fob's....
    My question ????
If I open my alarm box, bemove the old batteries and connect a new remote battery,
will the alarm auto reset, or will I need to reprogram the alarm using the 4 digit code ???
    Thanks, Ed in Houston :)

I just took my remote apart and took the battery out (just one 23A) and also messed around a bit - works fine after replacing the battery.

I am eventually going to wire the remote permanently into the car and solder wires into the remote which will be connected to my new alarm - this way I will never lose or damage the OEM remote.

You can change the battery without any "re-learn" process required.

Definitely don't want to get caught somewhere and the remote is dead. That will be a bigger issue than changing a battery if after hours.

Battery change is simple. Battery is standard size available in many "normal" stores.

Probably wise to change the battery every couple years, just as preventative measure.

I would not go as far as to say that the 23A battery is "normal". It is available in some specialty stores (camera stores)

I would keep a spare new one in the car.

First thing to do : have your red fob cloned or, at least, have the content of your red fob read.
You will be in a much better situation.

If you could enlist someone in the U.S. to do this, I am sure there would be a few thousand customers for you.

Make some search and you will find that, at least, Gobble is offering this service in the US.

I am sorry I didn't clarify better which alarm battery I meant :)
I have a 1998 355, and I believe the alarm batteries in the car are original...
The alarm works fine, but I am concerned about corrosion..
I do not have the 4 digit code for my car,
I just have the red fob and a key, no black fob's....
    My question ????
If I open my alarm box built into the car, remove the old batteries and connect a new remote battery,
will the alarm auto reset, or will I need to reprogram the alarm using the 4 digit code ???
    Thanks, Ed in Houston

I had to replace the whole unit since the battery had corroded so bad it wiped out the PC board. But It worked just fine without any reprogramming or anything.Ni-cad batteries are old school. I am going to replace the battery with a Nimh battery in a few years as a precaution. It'll go! It's just a matter of time. Another Bosch P.O.S. (1999 F355)

That alarm unit which is behind the front drivers side wheel (hidden) is not desinged to come apart. It is sealed. You gotta cut that mother open (surgery). And glue it shut. There was a great post that has pics and step by step instructions. I wish It would have been that simple for mine. It was scorched earth inside.
