Hi, I have searched a bit. Some threads about worn out batteries for the alarm system. Or key fob questions. Here is my question. Is there any clever way to get rid of the chirp (s), when activating the alarm, or arming the system? My fobs, and alarm are working well. But I don’t love the chirping. It’s a nice audible reminder that something has happened, and you are ready to go etc. but just wondering if anyone else has found an alternative.
Currently, each time I go to the car, I need to press the alarm button once, get a chirp, and then I can start the car. If I do not press the button, the car won’t start. This is even if I have not armed the system (by pressing the alarm button and locking the doors etc.).

Disconnect the siren. Alarm will work without it, parking lights will still flash, etc.

Yup. One of my first mods. That chirping is annoying and draws attention. I removed the siren and the bracket. Much nicer experience now.

The LED will illuminate permanently if you disconnect the siren.

The alarm system is also connected to the horn on at least some F355's, so you might still get aural warnings (for forced entries).

Guys, huge thanks for those ideas. 95% I will try it with the siren disconnected. That seems like a simple idea, that will accomplish what I want.

About the red LED on the dash being illuminated. Have to think about that. When it means your alarm battery is bad, it would bother me. But maybe not so much if I know the reason is more benign. Alternatively, I wonder if I could somehow “complete the circuit,” somehow spoof the system into thinking the siren is still connected.

Or do what I did, pop out the center dash vent and unplug the red LED. I like driving a car that doesn't make a ton of strange beeping and chirping noises and that doesn't have lights in the cabin flashing at me.

The LED illuminates steady/constantly for all kinds of alarm anomalies (including the engine and frunk lid being open). The siren chirps notify you aurally of problems. They may be annoying, but do give you a better indication of problems.

Those sirens are pretty complicated. I wouldn't like to guess what kind of "ok" signal it sends to the Immobiliser ECU. I believe you can disconnect the speaker plug inside the siren without turning on the LED, but that is not so easy with sirens with the plastic cases welded closed. I've opened one with a Stanley (boxcutter) knife with some effort to get a neat cut (to change the battery), but realised it wouldn't look so nice if I superglued it back together and just bought a new one.

Haha…yup. I should count my blessings, instead of worrying if my chirping might upset the neighbors.

With mine, if I put in in the key in the ignition, without disarming the alarm, which is what I think you are saying, the car won’t start. It will give me all the dash lights, etc. But no start. But I was wondering if maybe I locked and unlocked the doors with the key it would allow start and not involve the alarm? I’ve read the owners manual, but probably I should look again.

I just cut one open this morning. You could probably just disconnect this plug for the speaker.

Every modern car makes some noise when you press the key fob though, so I don't think the chirp drawn any extra attention to the car being a Ferrari.

Thank you, that idea will work too, but then, as mentioned above, the red light on the dash will probably stay on all the time. I should try it though.
Someone above mentioned that at least for the chirp to start, you can get around that by putting the key in the ignition first, before pressing the button-which I tried and it works.
As part of some work, I often wound up with rental cars. As you say, many cars do chirp/make noise when you lock them. But I usually found, with modern cars, that by doing something with the remote, (holding down the lock button for an extended time? I forget) I could turn that noise off if I wanted-without messing up the alarm generally.

If you unplug the siren entirely, cutting off the connection of the internal siren battery to the car, you would have the red light stay on all the time when the car is running. My guess would be that if you cut open the siren and just disconnect the speaker from the PCB board you would not have the same issue with the light. If you wanted to send me your siren I'd be happy to do that for you and wouldn't charge you anything.

I helped someone with a car a few days ago where the siren wasn't working and the little red light was missing (there was just a hole). Some prior owner may have had a failed siren and decided to remove rather than fix the problem.

Firstly G, I really appreciate that you are a sponsor. Secondly, I see what you are saying, maybe just have you disconnect the speaker. Thank you, that’s a really generous offer. I will think some more.

I was halfway kidding about the sock, but you could to stuff some insulation into the speaker to tone it down. Spray foam insulation then drill holes until you get the desired loudness.

Mark, not wanting you to reveal any trade secrets, but would you be able to tell us what you use to glue the case halves together (and can they still be opened for later battery changes)?

    Thanks!

I just use a two part plastic epoxy compatible with the alarm case, nothing special. I buy it at Menards. I typically wrap electrical tape around the joint when the epoxy is still wet. It bonds so well that I have to cut the siren open again if I have to get back inside.

The sirens are a pain in the ass and I make very little on them. I just had enough people ask that I started buying a few at a time.

Yeah, I had someone ask a while back so I reflashed a siren for him. Then I bought a few and a few more… I usually try to keep a couple here in case they’re needed.

I see so many BaT ads with the LED lit while the car is running. 20 years seems to be about the failure point for the internal battery.

I'll look up the Home Depot P/N I used when i get home. :p
