Does anyone have any ideas about the best tracker / alarm system for a Dino....and there is a specific issue I need to solve? My car is kept in a secure underground car park 90% of the time, with the other 10% here and there in the UK. My old Tracker system has expired and they tell me that their new system is very battery hungry in an underground lock up as it spends too much time searching ( and failing to find) a signal. My car is used in the summer months and occasionally in the winter if the roads are dry and salt free. As a result, it might go 3-4 weeks and sometimes up to two months without being driven. (I know, a shame, but when it's sunny, I get it out at every opportunity). I am told the new Tracker would drain the battery regularly in this sort of scenario. Is there a tracker unit out there that is less power hungry when it cannot find a signal...perhaps something that only turns on when the car has been moved without using the key? All help / suggestions listened to: I am not overly concerned about its safety given where it lives, but if someone really wanted to take it I guess they could and when it is parked elsewhere, I think some sort of tracker device is better than an alarm....it isn't as if the old locks etc are that good at deterring thieves and I was concerned and shocked to learn of the theft of an F-chat member's Dino stolen in central London a couple of months back. Thoughts and suggestions on security in the UK welcomed.
Keep in mind that you can disable virtually any tracker with a GPS/GSM jammer, so if a pro really wants your car, a tracker might not be saving it. A wheel clamp and steering wheel lock might be more effective.
I have a cell phone jammer given to me as a gift by another fellow FCHATTER that REALLY DOES WORK. When he gave it to me at a party at another FCHATTER's home, I turned it on, and no one could make or receive a call on their cell phone. Its range covered the whole house. It was in a box about half the size of a cigar box. I always poo-pooed such things, but OMG did it work!!! It has its own power supply and does not need to plugged into a wall socket. I'd like to see if it works on other cell phone users while stuck in traffic. Anyway, I've never heard of a GPS/GSM jammer that mere mortals had access to. Is it true that they work? How much do they cost?
Do a google search for gsm/gps jammer or cdma/gps jammer, unfortunately you can get them virtually anywhere. I have a tracker in my city car to check where i parked it, but i won't trust it to keep my car safe.
From their website: As soon as your vehicle is reported stolen, the LoJack unit in your vehicle is activated, emitting a uniquely coded Radio Frequency signal to a network of police cars and aviation units. So should be safe against GPS/CDMA/GSM jammers. But googling "lojack jammer" found this as first hit Rare To Find: LoJack Jammer
The LoJack Jammer is truly a horrible device that should be banned. I know, fat chance - but the whole purpose of LoJack is to locate your car if it is stolen. The other jamming devices are useful for places where cell phones disrupt the environment, such as in opera houses, or quiet rooms in libraries. But a LoJack Jammer serves only one purpose - to help someone steal your car.
