Hi all, I am not on this side of the board much, but I was wondering if anyone is from or lives in Alaska? I am moving there in two weeks and I am bringing the Jalpa with me. I would like to find some people to go driving with if anyone is in the Fairbanks area. Thanks, David
Have your rock chip prevention kit ready and stock up on air-filters. Lived up there for three years...still get up there every other month or so. Alaska's road environment "EATS" cars. Good luck PeterB.
I seem to recall a local Blue metallic '84 308 QV Euro being sold and shipped to somebody up there two years ago. I thought it was Fairbanks but could be mistaken. A fellow Fchatter, Mule, is shipping his up there in the next few months but not sure where.
I am moving back home to Anchorage in one month. I can sure make time to get to Fairbanks to see a Jalpa, or meet you anywhere in between (not that there is much in between). How are you getting the car up there? I am using Fromm America, who is putting it in container. Look forward to meeting you. Maybe Bob and I can host you in Anchorage one weekend. Go to The Cookie Jar in Fairbanks. It is awesome for breakfast!
Lived there 5 years. Didn't see any Ferraris but lots of cancer-ridden subarus. Watch out for frost heaves!
Let's meet halfway... http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/getAttraction.php3?tip_AttractionNo==4 Or we can get meet up at my place in Eagle River.
Ah, yes, the Igloo Hotel. I always stop because it looks so cool (literally). Do they still park the tundra trucks outside for tours? We could also do Talkeetna. David, I may not be available to July, but it is on my list.
Also on that same road about 30 mile south of Fairbanks is a motel/Bar with a great name -- "Skinny Dick's Halfway Inn" -- this guy has the Merchandising end down pat, almost as much stuff as a Hard Rock Cafe. Unfortunately there is not much else to see there but every tourist stops to take a picture. I did. ............I bet................................
Wow always wanted to drive up to Alaska, since I did the LA to Seattle drive 2 tiems a month the last 2 years. But if it "eats" cars, I may be wary. Are the conditions that bad up there?
