hello, both chicagoland ferrari dealers have new ferrari 612's in stock. LFSC has theirs equipped with "alcantara boot carpet" for $1,700. can anyone here explain what boot carpet in a ferrari is? joe P.S. autosports has their black/black with natural inserts and piping... orang'ish inserts on black daytona seats?
I'm assuming that this refers to the carpeting in the trunk. I didn't like the fuzzy cardboard "carpeting" in my 612, so went online and bought a custom-made, lovely, thick black carpet that fits great and cost a lot less than $1700! I've seen mention of the Alcantara carpet option for this car, and have wondered whether it's a soil magnet or not. Anyone have any experience? Best, Gary
I special ordered my 430 spider with Alcantara to replace carpet everywhere the carpet would normally be and like it a lot. They use pretty low grade carpet and I have not had any problem with dirt or dust.
Alcantara utilizes a very short length fibre that I would think would make it much easier to clean, and less likely to trap dirt. It also looks a lot better than carpet. The only thing I'd be concerned about is its durability in high-wear areas like driver/passenger footwells. For the boot, ie trunk, I think it'd be perfect. More info on maintenance/cleaning of Alcantara is available here: http://world.alcantara.com/newsite/americas/contenuti/pdf/manutenzione_alcantara.pdf
Several of my friends are ordering Alcantara interiors on the 430S because they don't like the technical fabric. My 997 GT3RS had a lot of Alcantara inside which I liked
