Is the big to-do about this whole thing because of the drinking/driving connection? ****** please. I am sad for the families of those who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers. Its a tragedy. Its a crime. But does any thinking person really believe that advertising beer and liquor companies on racecars creates an impression that drinking and driving is okay?

Oh wait, I'm trying to apply logical, rational thought to this issue. My bad.

I have an easier time explaining to my 11 year old girl about the Jim Beam sticker than the Viagra stickers.

Maybe it would be easier if it were feminine hygene products sponsoring nascar.

"Hey Dean, I got some tickets and pit passes to the KOTEX 500!"

"How'd you manage to get them?"

    "Pulled some strings."*

ESPN did a segment on this, and some stats were thrown around pertaining to studies of 18-34 year-old males, the most likely to drive under the influence, and that the presence of advertising had little effect on their decision to drink or not. The biggest influence comes consistently from peer-related instances, especially among the younger men.

They also briefly interviewed the former crew chief (forgot his name/team) who quit his team when they accepted a liquor sponsorship because he felt it went against his Christian family beliefs. That's very commendable--principles seem hard to come by these days--but I wish they would have asked him where the line is drawn. Why was it OK to work in NASCAR when the title sponsor was a tobacco company?

I think that this type of advertising would certainly have an impact on what KIND of alcohol people drink, but not on where or when they drink it- ie. in a car while driving
