I don´t agree Berger (whom i also liked very much) was more consistent, that´s why Alesi always had more points in the end. yes Gerhard had more wins but, look at how many Alesi lost by no fault of his (Monza 1994 (he had a 10 second leed before the car wen caput in the pitstop, Hockenheim 1994 (started from front row with gerhard but car broke at the start), Monza 1995 (last five laps and the camera broke rear wheel cube), Suzuka 1995 (catching Shumi by 3s per lap (trasmission broke) Monza 1996, (was leading Shumi but ferrari quicker in the pitstops so he lost the place end finished second).
AS for being better than Ayrton in the rain, i do believe he was, both of them have inumerous fabulous races in the rain, I guess Ayrton first victory in Estoril is probably his best one, as for jean, Suzuka 1995 was one of the most incredibles display of talent i ever saw, together with the european g.p in spain 1992, where he was third in that box with wheels...and probably would have won if not wrongly penalised in the begining of the race
Here is a link for a great race if you wan´t to peek.

As for my last sentence, i stand by it, and you can bet thar driver´s like Alesi, Senna, Shumacher, mansell would never folowed Petrov till the end withou even trying!!!...Prost would, but if that was the case, the Russian´s Renault would have broken!!!

I enjoyed watching the link, and his performance in Japan 95 is wonderful, as is his back and forth with Senna in Phoenix 90, and his qualifying performance in Monaco 92. I hope you don't take any of this as me not liking Alesi, because I am a fan, but back in Alesi and Berger's Ferrari days, I always viewed Berger as the teams #1 driver. The more I look at the results, the more it shows how evenly they both performed. Berger outscored Alesi in 94 and took more podiums in 95. As for the time spent at Benetton, Alesi clearly outperformed Berger.

If only Ferrari currently had two drivers that we could so extensively argue who is more skilled.

I believe we could, if that spring hadn´t hit Felipe´s head....i honestly belive he was faster than Alonso and it would have been a lot more fun to see than batle, the way it happened in 07 and 08 with Kimi....but unfortunatly this is not the case, and so, I must say that Ferrari should drop a driver i Like very much but that is no longer good enough to drive in f.1....and to my desgrace, keep another one i really hate, unable to make me watch Ferrari with pleasure, but one of the best drivers out there.
I can only hope for the day when ferrari will again have a worthy driver for my to cheer!!!
PS: I think any real Ferrari nut must love drivers like alesi and Gilles.
I also hope you don´t think i´m just some crazy fan that for some reason "fell in love" with one driver and cant be objective. I did fell in love with jean, to me, after Gilles he was the only one who really made me lift from my chair (I was a big fan of Alboreto, berger, Mansell, Shumi, Kimi and Massa...not much Prost and i won´t even commemt on the spanish viper) but i always try to be objective about him, and the fact is that he drove crap cars most of the time....the best chassis he ever had was the 1990 Tyrrel, the 92/93 Ferraris where apalling, and yet, hemanaged to do some amazing things as in Monaco and spain....i'm deeply sorry he never got the car he deserved!! bY the way, just so you know i´m not the only one to think he was that good, Piquet said in 1994.
"Just give a benetton to alesi and you will see who will be worls champion".
I also asked Nigel Roebuck his opinion on Alesi and he agreed with me, and more so, berger and Frank williams also did...i´ll post his ansewr to me if i can find it.

    Cheers

    Pedro
