Not to rain on your parade but I thought that it was much bigger news when Maria joined Marussia as a test driver. Finally a woman in F1 again.

Not that big a deal. There are plenty of women already in F1... :D

I'm much more excited about finally having an American in F1 who is fast enought to undo some of the damage that Scott (no)Speed did to our reputation.

Good luck to Rossi! Any young American in the sport is good as long as they have a true passion.

Speed was a waste of time and had misguided interests. I think the US will have a great driver again when that driver only "exists" to drive open wheel. Unfortunately, as of late there is a gap in what younger drivers see as there goal as a driver.

I feel that anyone 30+ remembers ABC sports and seeing F1 and Indy as a goal growing up!!! Or at least for myself. However, towards the late 90's and on; with the exposure to the gaining $$$ in Nascar, America went full on stock car racing. The split with Indy and Cart certainly did not help matters, and drivers went to Daytona.

However, I feel like it is coming back full circle. It is now 20 years later and open wheel seems to be coming back. F1 has "two" possible US races and Indy is gaining interest and sponsors again.

I hope Rossi takes this opportunity seriously, and I'm hoping he has a bit a luck to bump him up. Ideally no ill will at Caterham, but if he could score a few Fridays this year or even a late season showing that would be great.

    Speed simply didn't have any

Would be great to see a good US driver back in F1 filling the big shoes of Phil and Mario.

the issue with rossi is that he's not quick enough. He sucked in GP2 against relatively average drivers, in GP2 asia he didn't fare much better. Not been following GP3 much this year but the 3 or so races I have seen it seemed more or less the same for him.

He's an ok qualifier but during the course of the race he just slips back through the field.

    $$ talks.

A little birdie told me that there are FChatters with very close connections to Rossi.

That's good enough for me to root for the guy. Would be awesome to see him on the grid next year for the NY GP.

In my book Speed was OK.
As good as the others before and after him except for this Vettel fellow.
