I know some of you have taken your car to HPDE days (track days). Can you advise what prep you did to the car. Also, I am guessing that to do brake fluid it is easier (or only possible) if you remove the front hood. Any guidance on doing this appreciated. Philip
Just put gas in and go. That is what is amazing about this car. And it just takes it, lap after lap. Once your at the track, you'll set your tire pressure down according. Usually it's about 6lbs to start. The brake fluid is filled up the the windshield. there is a little access panel and a funnel I believe that comes in the kit. I think I've seen it at one point. You fill in there if you need any additional. But to do a change you'd have to remove the front hood. I track my car very often and I'll I do is drop it off for an oil change every 6 months if I've been driving it hard. Depending on your color, I heard the red is softer?? You may want to get track tape, it's a clear tape that you just put on the front of your car and mirrors to protect the paint. I have yet to do it on my car and have received a mark or two. Luckily, I was able to get it off. Now Griot's offers a track rubber removal spray, I've yet to try it but I bought one to do so.
Thanks for this Tom. Did you change brake fluid before track day or no? Pads? Car is covered in the 3M stuff already. Thanks Philip
Nope...No change... Pads are quite good. I was running 35 minute longs sessions at Cal Speedway in 113degree heat. They worked flawless all day.. Made lots of noises pulling back into the garage cooling, but still all good.
I see the seat has height adjustment, creating the opportunity to raise the leading edge. Anyone done this? I assume the seat has to come out, then be adjusted, then put back which will doubtless need care with the captive(?) nuts in the cf tub. Philip
The 4C is so much Alfa. I really dont think it's a great car, esp for the money but i want one so bad.
Where else can you pick up a car in the 50 range that is so much fun. My 360 rarely gets driven. This car blows the doors off the 360 around town and under 120mph. It's raw, animated and exciting all the time. There are not many cars that provide the feedback and feel that this car does. Yes, it's not for those of you who want comfort. It's not bad, but it's very stiff and there is no recline in the seat adjustment. My only gripe really with the car.
Here is some of the stuff that's being done for the 4C. It's thru POGEA Racing. This is what separates the plug in play tuners like Eurocompulsion, and real tuners invested in the car, with passion, innovation and engineering. What you'll see in the pics is the following. Centurion#008 and Nemesis being assembled. The 2.0L, Most powerful 4C motor on the planet, putting down 477BHP. The new side rocker panels done in Carbon Fiber with functional scoops on both sides for cooling. The new rear glass replacement. Eliminating massive weight and if you look at the pic closely, you'll notice the two scoops on both sides. They take in air, force it into the engine compartment and pushes the heat out the vent system. The new engine lid Carbon Fiber Vents. The new Nemesis front Carbon Bumper. You can see how much more aggressive it is. The new forged Blade wheel. Made specifically for the 4C. You can see in the B.G., the X Cut wheels as well. Made for the 4C. and last The Nemesis door panel. This is just a sample of the modifications done to the door panel. I'm not sure in the order they will post, but I'm sure your smart enough to figure out what pic is what. If you have any questions, I'll try and answer to the best of my knowledge. I admire your taste in modifications. Nicely done. Please continue to post. I have a 4c and it has become part of our family....the fact that most people don't 'get it' makes the car that more special. Let the masses buy the Porsches.
Yikes! That's pretty awesome. One of the great things you can do with a 4c (or any alfa) is mod it. Ferrari people don't like that. that engine looks like a monster!
I admire what you are doing, reminds me of the old days. You seem to be close with this tuning group, could you ask them if they have any plans to release software that might help the tranny shift faster. I would agree about the mod thing, back in 03 when I even mentioned after market wheels I was chastised.
I don't understand all the people who poo poo the 4c. The whole is much greater than the sum of the parts with this car. I have a Boxster which I love...but if I drive it back to back with the 4c, the Boxster seems floaty, slow and not as fun. Maybe we should stop talking up the 4c and keep the secret to ourselves.
The two cars are apples and oranges. People think a sports car today should be a gt. The 4c is no gt.
I had to jump mine today. I've been gone a few months. The 4c is super easy to jump for a mid engine car. Nothing to remove and pretty easy to get to.
Do you trickle charge your car? Asking because my car is similar age to yours...usually doesn't sit for a few months but several weeks at a time.
It's in a condo. I can't trickle charge. But I've left it over a month before (maybe 6 weeks) and it started fine. This was like 3+ months. The battery was not dead but would not start the car. It's back to normal now. I took it to the dealer in the afternoon for its annual service. $249 dollars later I left smiling.
it might have been posted, but there is a great show on "how its made" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80wM4P4dD90
The full version is pretty close to an hour, it has been taken down. If u search hard enough you can locate it. Much better I might add.
I have that and other episodes recorded. When one considers the effort involved the 4C is a screaming bargain.
Nope. What it has in it is all aluminum variation of the Euro Alfa Guilletta. 1.7 liters. Actually its unique to the 4c. They don't put this engine in any other car.
I'm thinking about picking up a 4C (probably a Spider) in the future, and I had a couple questions: 1) What is necessary to take off the front cover? I like to do as much work on my cars as possible, and I don't want to take it to a dealer just to change brake fluid. 2) While flipping through the brochure, I noticed that there is a timing belt versus a timing chain. How involved is the replacement when the time comes? Can it be done without dropping the engine? If I can't do it myself, how much will a dealer charge to do this? Thanks for the help!
Once the diffuser on the bottom is pulled out, you can access the belts quite easy. The front hood takes a little effort, but it does come off easily. I've swapped my cat out a few times now as well as different exhaust systems.. It's a very easy car to work on. The only hang up is if you have bolts screwed into the carbon fiber. They have to be the exact torque recommended.
